Warning: SPOILERS for WandaVision Episode 9 – “The Series Finale”

Vision (Paul Bettany) rebooted White Vision’s memories in WandaVision’s finale and here’s every scene from the Marvel Cinematic Universe returned to the Synthezoid. The battle between Vision and White Vision was one of the highlights of WandaVision’s final episode. Both androids proved equal in terms of power levels, but the White Vision was lacking in humanity, and empathy for his doppelganger is the key to how Vision was able to help his rival.

WandaVision revealed that the White Vision is the same Synthezoid who died in Avengers: Infinity War. He is the original Vision, who was once Tony Stark’s (Robert Downey Jr.) A.I. manservant, JARVIS, and is also a combination of the essences of Stark, Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), and Ultron (James Spader) housed in a Vibranium body. However, White Vision is missing the Mind Stone, which was taken from his forehead by Thanos (Josh Brolin). This killed the original Vision; S.W.O.R.D acquired his remains and attempted to bring him back online as a sentient weapon, but they were unsuccessful. S.W.O.R.D. Acting Director Tyler Hayward (Josh Stamberg) later framed Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) for stealing Vision’s remains, but the Vision who became Wanda’s husband within the Hex was a construct created by Maximoff using her magic and the powers of the Mind Stone that are a part of her.

S.W.O.R.D. was able to rebuild Vision into a new white Synthezoid and Hayward realized he needed Wanda’s magic to bring his android to life, not unlike how the magic lightning from Thor’s (Chris Hemsworth) hammer originally woke Vision up in Avengers: Age of Ultron. The emotionless White Vision followed his programming to kill Wanda Maximoff, but Vision defended his wife. More importantly, Vision realized that his ivory double was struggling with his own existential questions, and he used the riddle of the Ship of Theseus to pose the query of which of them is the true Vision. The answer was both, and neither, is the true Vision, but White Vision was the original construct that can exist outside the Hex. What White Vision simply lacked was his memories, which were still within his memory storage but inaccessible due to his programming. Vision sympathized because Wanda created him without his memories of his life with the Avengers.

However, as a product of the Mind Stone, Vision had the ability to return memories to others, just as he did to many of the people trapped by Wanda in Westview. White Vision submitted to Vision’s help and the Synthezoids joined minds so that White Vision could have his memories unlocked and downloaded back into his mind. When this was done, White Vision became the one, true Synthezoid. He announced “I am Vision!” before he flew away. Not surprisingly, the memories returned to White Vision were from the three MCU movies he appeared in. The download only lasted 10 seconds and was non-sequential, mixing events from Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, and Avengers: Infinity War, but White Vision’s precious memories naturally centered around his love for Wanda Maximoff.

The first wave of Vision’s memories came from Avengers: Age of Ultron: Vision’s birth from Dr. Helen Cho’s (Claudia Kim) Cradle after Thor’s lightning gave him life inside Avengers Tower. Vision remembered arriving in Sokovia for the final battle with Ultron, swinging Thor’s hammer (before he quipped that the weapon is “perfectly balanced” in the film), flashes of his fighting alongside the Avengers (and Wanda) against Ultron’s drones, and how Vision gripped Ultron’s head as he purged all trace of the murderous android from the Internet.

Vision’s next set of memories jumped to the traumatic events of Avengers: Infinity War: Wanda joining the Battle of Wakanda, Shuri (Leticia Wright) using Wakandan technology to try to extract the Mind Stone from Vision, Thanos arriving in Wakanda, and Wanda holding off Thanos while simultaneously using her powers to destroy the Mind Stone.

As Vision relived his original death, which he asked Wanda to do, his mind further flashed back to Captain America: Civil War. Vision remembered Wanda smiling after he tried to cook her paprikash, but he also recalled Wanda using her powers to fight him after Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) arrived at Avengers Compound to free her from house arrest. Vision also remembered holding Wanda during the Avengers’ battle at Berlin airport.

Vision’s memories then returned to Avengers: Infinity War as Wanda continued to use her powers to destroy the Mind Stone. Vision remembered their romantic liaison in Scotland earlier in the film, which was the first time fans saw the Synthezoid take human form as he killed Wanda in a hotel room. There’s a shot of Wanda looking at the wound in Vision’s torso caused by Corvus Glaive’s axe. Vision then flashed back to his POV of Wanda’s face as she killed him, then his own lifeless corpse hitting the ground. Finally, Vision saw a victorious Thanos take the Mind Stone after his second death. Vision’s mind jumped back to kissing Wanda in Scotland as he remembers her shattering the Mind Stone, which was his first death in Avengers: Infinity War.
