In 2008, Bravo added another city to the Real Housewives franchise, New York City. Introducing fans to the Big Apple was Luann de Lesseps, Alex McCord, Ramona Singer, Jill Zarin, and Bethenny Frankel. The ladies showed what life was like between winters in the Upper East Side and summers in the Hamptons.
With season 13 debuting in May of this year, binging former seasons shows viewers how far the series has come. Among the original cast, Luann and Ramona are the last ones standing but longtime housewives like Sonja Morgan are still going strong.
12 Season 11
Season 11 was the final straw for Bethenny Frankel after eight seasons on the show. Things became too much for her when her boyfriend Dennis passed away unexpectedly and she was dealing with Luann’s demons. Lu was recently divorced from Tom and suffered an incident that landed her in prison. Most of the ladies were tired of tiptoeing around Lu’s bad behavior, but she wasn’t the only one. Sonja also had trouble letting go of her former life as a Morgan.
11 Season 12
Season 12 saw a new, younger housewife on its roster with Leah McSweeney. She was the fresh face that RHONY needed. Her mother-daughter relationship with Ramona had its ups and downs, which brought an intriguing dynamic to the show.
Dorinda and Tinsley also battled so hard that Tinsley left in the middle of the season for a new life in Chicago and Dorinda quit the series after the season reunion.
10 Season 4
Season 4 was the ending for a few important housewives. It was the final season for Kelly Killoren Bensimon, Jill Zarin, Alex McCord, and Cindy Barshop. Funny enough, Dorinda Medly made an appearance this season as a guest.
In this season, the ladies traveled to Morocco for an iconic getaway that turned many of the ladies against each other. Sonja Morgan was also honest about her financial woes and the burden of her townhouse, which still plagues her today on RHONY.
9 Season 2
The second season of RHONY had all of the original wives back but added a new wife to the mix, Kelly Killoren Bensimon. Kelly and Bethenny did not get off on the right foot, which added a ton of tension throughout the season.
Ramona started her skincare line this season, Alex and Simon finally renovated their townhouse, and Luann was gearing up for an empty house with her kids going away to boarding school.
8 Season 1
The start of it all! As iconic as RHONY is, season 1 was not its best. It was slow to the start because while the women were familiar with each other, they weren’t as close as they are now. The women showed off their families and their lavish lifestyle but the drama didn’t really set in until later seasons.
7 Season 5
Bravo shook things up in season 5. Joining Ramona, Luann, and Sonja were new housewives, Carole Radziwill, Aviva Drescher, and Heather Thomson. As always, Ramona had a hard time getting along with the new girls, particularly Aviva. The drama between the ladies got worse when they traveled to St. Barts for a vacation and Luann brought back an unexpected guest…
6 Season 6
Kristen Taekman was the new girl on the block in season 6. As a former model and mother of two, Kristen made Ramona roll her eyes by claiming she wasn’t the smartest but she was the prettiest. The two ladies butted heads all season long, especially at the Berkshires. But Kristen wasn’t the only one who had the ladies talking, Aviva’s patience had also run out. It was in this season that Aviva took off her prosthetic leg and slammed it on the table of a New York restaurant.
5 Season 10
In the 10th season, Luann is trying to take charge of her image and get back in the public’s good graces. She creates a cabaret show that viewers see come to fruition by the end of the season. Meanwhile, Bethenny and Carole’s friendship is at its worst as they can’t get past former issues. Dorinda and Sonja’s friendship was also never worse than in season 10. In short, the season was filled with tension and friendship woes.
4 Season 8
Season 8 was Jules Wainstein’s first and only season as a housewife. She got along well with the girls and had a complicated marriage but Bravo found her to be too “normal” for the cast. Nevertheless, season 8 proceeded with Luann living with Sonja for a few weeks when both of them became empty nesters. Luann also introduced her new boyfriend to cameras, her future (now ex) husband, Tom.
3 Season 9
What made season 9 great was the cast. All of the women had a bond where they loved and hated each other. There wasn’t any new blood, which gave all the women time to get to know each other on a deeper level.
This season revolved heavily around Luann’s upcoming wedding to Tom and all of the rumors that the ladies were hearing about him.
2 Season 7
The seventh season was Bethenny and Luann’s first season back after a short hiatus. The two women got to know the newbies as they became comfortable in front of the camera again. But Lu and Carole didn’t start off on good terms when Carole began dating Luann’s chef. With Dorinda in the mix as well, season 7 was the beginning of many fights at the Berkshires, and the fighting only continued when the ladies head back to Turks and Caicos.
1 Season 3
Fans can agree that season 3 was one of RHONY’s best. Jill and Bethenny were falling apart at the seams, Ramona stopped trying to be something that she wasn’t, and Sonja Morgan was new to the mix. It was also this season that gave fans Scary Island! With Bethenny pregnant and moving on in life, she didn’t hold back when it came to the other ladies. There was drama in every episode.
