Every Star Wars Location In LEGO Star Wars Castaways

LEGO Star Wars: Castaways was released in November, and it lets players visit iconic locations from throughout Star Wars history. An Apple Arcade exclusive mobile game, Castaways picks up with players being stranded on an abandoned planet on which they must forage a path forward because they don’t know if anyone is coming back for them. However, they quickly realize that people used to live on this planet – and that its ancient civilizations were aware of key events from Star Wars history. Players will get to (re)visit many LEGO Star Wars locations.

In this game, players can play alone or with others online, and this includes when they visit the LEGO Star Wars: Castaways’ Observatory on their new planet. Here, they learn that the ancient civilizations were not only privy to the series’ history, but that they also recorded it. Players can access those recordings and play through critical moments and meet established Star Wars characters through the Observatory’s simulations. These LEGO Star Wars characters will be nothing more than holograms, but it’s a treat to meet and battle alongside them nonetheless.

LEGO Star Wars: Castaways shines in its ability to bridge the series’ past with its future, which is what players will experience, too. Most of the characters and locations in the game are new and making their first appearance in Castaways, but because of the Observatory’s simulations, players are able to visit pivotal battles, spaceships, and planets from across the LEGO Star Wars map – and history – without leaving the building. In this way, the game’s connectivity of the past, present, and future is rather meta; it’s both the games apparent purpose and the game’s story.

LEGO Star Wars: Castaway’s Observatory Was Crucial For Developers

When developing LEGO Star Wars: Castaways, it seems that the developer knew that the Observatory would play a crucial role in integrating players into the Star Wars universe, hopefully making this LEGO game better than players remember them. In an interview with True North Bricks, the game’s creative director, Jacques Durand, and senior producer, Lee Kaburis, who is also Gameloft MontrĂ©al’s general manager, explained that this location was crucial because the game is set in the future in a far part of the galaxy. Therefore, they needed a place that could concretely connect this game to the rest of the Star Wars world.

When creating the Observatory and its simulations, Durand and Kaburis knew that they needed to include moments that would be memorable to players. However, they also needed to add moments that would translate well to being played in a video game. They studied all 9 Stars Wars films for this LEGO game crossover but noted that much of the content in the game at present is rooted in the original film trilogy. They state, though, that more content based on the other films will be coming to Castaways at some point in the future.

What they ultimately chose to include in Castaways is a diverse range of locations that take players down memory lane. They admit in their interview that they purposely chose moments from varied biomes so that players would have diverse areas to explore, and they also wanted to pick moments with diverse color palettes to keep players intrigued and visually satiated. Finally, they chose LEGO Star Wars: Castaways’ locations based on which moments from Star Wars history had physical LEGO sets modeled after them. With these criteria in mind, they made their final selections and created the Observatory’s simulations.

LEGO Star Wars: Castaways Players Transcend Time And Space

The planet on which LEGO Star Wars: Castaways players land appears like a deserted island. It’s a topical paradise in the middle of space with crystal clear water and lush greenery – it even has a waterfall! However, when players make their way to the Observatory, they can transcend time and space to uncover the mysteries of their universe. This includes boarding the Millennium Falcon, taking a trip to the planet Tatooine, and even boarding a Death Star. The locations are selective at present, so popular characters like Boba Fett aren’t playable in this game and they don’t appear at all.

The Millennium Falcon is most commonly associated with Han Solo, and that’s exactly who players will see aboard the ship in LEGO Star Wars: Castaways. Most of the central characters from Star Wars’ original trilogy appear in the simulations at present. This allows players to explore the ship in ways they can’t from watching it in the movies, but it isn’t the only ship players visit. Players can also visit the Death Star to fight Darth Vader, though Vader isn’t playable in this Star Wars game.

While LEGO Star Wars: Castaways introduces a new planet with new locations, the following are the established Star Wars locations that players can explore in-game:

Ultimately, LEGO Star Wars: Castaways was just released a month ago, so its list of locations isn’t too long yet. Still, the new planet’s Observatory allows the game’s developers to not only bridge new and old Star Wars fans together but also to add new simulations as they’re created and polished. This will keep players hooked and even looking forward to upcoming Star Wars video games, too. They developers have already confirmed that they’re working on more content inspired by series’ prequel and sequel film trilogies, so players can expect new simulations in the future. For now, though, they can battle alongside Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa and take down Darth Vader in classic LEGO style.
