Every Teen Wolf Actor In The Arrowverse

The Arrowverse has existed for almost a full decade, and in that time, multiple actors from MTV’s Teen Wolf have entered the franchise in big and small roles across The CW’s DC TV shows. Teen Wolf, which is a darker adaptation of the 1985 comedy with Michael J. Fox, has both during and after its run had several of its actors join Greg Berlanti’s Arrowverse universe. With the franchise comprising a total of 7 shows next year, only time will tell if more actors from the MTV drama will be cast as DC characters.

Some of the stars that The CW has cast have actually had bigger roles in the Arrowverse compared to their Teen Wolf characters. It’s also been the other way around, as some of the veteran actors of the teen drama ended up having a smaller part on their respective DC show.

Since Teen Wolf’s finale in September 2017, a total of 8 actors have so far joined the DC franchise. The following are all of the Teen Wolf actors who have appeared in the Arrowverse, listed in chronological order from 2012 onward.

Colton Haynes

The first Teen Wolf actor to join the Arrowverse was Colton Haynes, starting with Arrow in its first season back in 2013. Beginning as a recurring guest before being upgraded to series regular, Haynes plays Roy Harper a.k.a. Arsenal, who became a pivotal Team Arrow member until he exited the series after the third season. However, he’d return for multiple guest spots until signing on as a series regular again in the final two seasons. On Teen Wolf, Haynes played Jackson Whittemore, Scott McCall’s (Tyler Posey) high school rival who became obsessed with wanting the same werewolf gifts as the protagonist. Jackson played a large role in the second season when he, in an attempt to become a werewolf, turns into a dangerous Kanima. At the end of season 2, Jackson manages to transform completely into a werewolf, while still keeping some of his Kanima abilities. Haynes did, however, not return for Teen Wolf season 3 due to a contract as he was only offered to return for 12 episodes rather than 24 episodes like his fellow cast members. In two of the final five episodes of Teen Wolf season 6, Jackson, who was now in a romantic relationship with Ethan and living in London, returns to Beacon Hill to help his friends.

John Wesley Shipp

Having previously played Barry Allen in the ’90s, John Wesley Shipp joining The Flash in 2014 was a major legacy casting for the Arrowverse. Throughout the six seasons, Shipp has ended up playing more than one DC character, thanks to the nature of the multiverse. In the first two seasons, Shipp plays Barry’s (Grant Gustin) father Henry Allen, who was framed for Nora Allen’s (Michelle Harrison) death thanks to the Reverse-Flash. However, by the end of The Flash season 2, Henry is murdered by Zoom, and Shipp instead went on to play the Golden Age Flash, Jay Garrick, of Earth-3. Shipp does also reprise his Flash from the CBS series in the Elseworlds crossover and serving a large role in Crisis on Infinite Earths. On Teen Wolf, Shipp plays Isaac Lahey’s (Daniel Sharman) abusive father for three episodes in the second season. Isaac’s father ends up being killed by the Kanima, which later turned out to be Jackson.

JR Bourne

One of Teen Wolf’s most badass characters was JR Bourne’s Chris Argent, who was Allison’s father and initially a villain in the series’ first two seasons. While his character on the MTV drama was an essential one, Bourne’s Arrowverse character ended up only appearing once, but it was a memorable one. In Arrow season 4, Bourne guest-starred as the DC villain Jeremy Tell a.k.a. Double Down who is actually a Flash foe. He was a metahuman assassin who worked for H.I.V.E. and had the power to produce deadly playing cards from his skin tattoos. On Teen Wolf, Bourne’s character ended up becoming one of the parental figures of Scott’s pack as he redeemed himself after the first two seasons. With his skills as a hunter and as a voice of reason for most of the time, Argent became a loveable and badass character for viewers to enjoy.

Madison McLaughlin

A character who became a wild card in the later seasons of Arrow was Evelyn Sharp, played by Madison McLaughlin. Evelyn joined the Arrowverse in 2016. Her first appearance was right after Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) was killed off, as Evelyn temporarily stole her Black Canary mantle. In the following season, Evelyn became one of the newest recruits to Team Arrow as the series made her their version of DC Comics’ Artemis. However, it didn’t take long until she turned on the team as she joined Prometheus (Josh Segarra) in his quest to destroy Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell). Evelyn has been missing since the season 5 finale after Lian Yu was blown up. On Teen Wolf, McLaughlin appeared in one episode of season 3 as Paige, Derek Hale’s (Tyler Hoechlin) first teenage love. Paige appears in the flashbacks as part of telling Derek’s tragic backstory of how he lost his first love.

Tyler Hoechlin

The first Teen Wolf actor to get their own Arrowverse spinoff is Tyler Hoechlin as he will be leading Superman & Lois next season reprising his role as Clark Kent a.k.a. Superman. Hoechlin joined the franchise back in 2016 as the Man of Steel in Supergirl season 2. For the last few years, Superman has appeared several times as a recurring guest character before becoming a larger player in the last two Arrowverse crossovers.

On Teen Wolf, Hoechlin was a series regular in the first 4 seasons as he played Derek Hale, a fellow werewolf who started out as Scott’s mentor. After becoming an Alpha, Derek became a temporary antagonist to Scott and his friends in the second season. Once he became an ally again, Derek went through a lot: from discovering his sister who he thought was dead was alive to temporarily losing his abilities. While Hoechlin departed Teen Wolf after season 4, Derek returned for the final few episodes of season 6.

Susan Walters

When The Flash was introducing Caitlin Snow’s (Danielle Panabaker) mother in the third season, Teen Wolf alum Susan Walters was the one cast as Carla Tannhauser. At the start of her run on the show, Carla and Caitlin had a very estranged relationship due to Caitlin’s complex upbringing following her father’s death (although it’s later revealed in season 5 that he was still alive). During Caitlin’s struggle with her metahuman powers as Killer Frost was beginning to take over, Carla ended up helping her daughter. Carla’s role in the Arrowverse changed for the better after the trauma she and Caitlin went through with the villain Icicle, as they ultimately had to see Thomas Snow die again. On Teen Wolf, however, Walters had a bigger part as she played main character Lydia Martin’s (Holland Roden) mother Natalie Martin throughout the show’s six-year run.

Meagan Tandy

Batwoman became the latest Arrowverse series to recruit one of Teen Wolf’s many talented actors by casting Meagan Tandy as Sophie Moore, one of the main characters. The first season establishes her as Kate Kane’s (Ruby Rose) old flame at Point Rock Academy. Years later, Sophie has been working for Crows Security as one of Jacob Kane’s (Dougray Scott) top agents while also forming a relationship with Gotham City’s new protector. On Teen Wolf, Tandy was a recurring guest star between seasons 3-5 as the mercenary-for-hire Braeden. Throughout her run on the show, Braeden was a frequent ally to Scott and his pack as they dealt with multiple threats. While Tandy and Hoechlin have yet to interact in the Arrowverse, their Teen Wolf characters actually got into a romantic relationship.

Crystal Reed

While Crystal Reed has technically not appeared in any of the Arrowverse shows, she was on Swamp Thing, which became part of the franchise thanks to Crisis on Infinite Earths. Reed played Abby Arcane who, while investigating a mysterious virus that is affecting her hometown, bonds with Alec Holland before and after he is transformed into the titular character. Despite the cancellation, Swamp Thing was acquired by The CW as it will be re-airing the first season in the fall, which does open the door for Reed’s character to appear on the other Arrowverse shows down the line.

On Teen Wolf, Reed plays Allison Argent who was the female lead and Scott’s first love interest for three seasons. Established as a badass hunter, Allison’s romance with Scott was a major compilation due to her family not approving their daughter being with a werewolf. However, in a shocking and heartbreaking moment during the third season, Allison is killed off after getting stabbed by an Oni as Reed was ready to leave Teen Wolf to pursue new acting opportunities. As devastating as her death was, Reed and the showrunner worked together to give Allison a powerful ending. Depending on how Swamp Thing does in re-runs this fall on The CW, perhaps a Multiverse storyline will eventually allow Reed’s character to interact with the rest of the Arrowverse and perhaps stage a Teen Wolf reunion of a kind with some of the present actors.
