Every Type of Vehicle Mission in Grand Theft Auto San Andreas – Definitive Edition

Vehicle Missions have been a staple of Grand Theft Auto games since the series’ very first installment, with each new game bringing more and more to the table. At the time of its release, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas featured more of them than any of the games that had come before it, offering a nice mixture of fresh new ideas as well as some returning classics like Vigilante and Taxi Driver.

For those unaware, a Vehicle Mission is one that is triggered while inside specific vehicles, with players able to toggle them on and off by pressing up on the d-pad. Each has a specific completion requirement, as well as a unique reward that can really help players out during some of the more challenging missions in GTA: San Andreas. Most of them are also required for 100% completion too, meaning that those hoping to unlock all of the game’s trophies/achievements will need to tackle them at some point.

Burglary (Boxville Black)

Every Type of Vehicle Mission in Grand Theft Auto San Andreas – Definitive Edition

Burglary missions are one of several new types of Vehicle Missions found in San Andreas. Players are first introduced to them during Ryder’s “Home Invasion” mission and will gain the ability to carry out burglaries for themselves upon its completion. As in the main story mission, players will need to sneak into houses at night and steal as many items as possible without making too much noise. They’ll then need to take the stolen goods to a lockup, though will have five in-game hours to do so providing they leave the house and are back in the Boxville before 6 AM.

The reward for Completing the Burglary Mission

To “complete” the Burglary mission, players will need to steal $10,000 worth of goods. This can be done across multiple burglaries and will require somewhere in the region of 25 items in total. Reaching this amount will provide CJ with unlimited sprint, as well as an additional $3,000, but unlike other vehicle missions, this isn’t required for 100% completion.

Fire Fighter (Firetruck)

Every Type of Vehicle Mission in Grand Theft Auto San Andreas – Definitive Edition

One of several returning Vehicle Missions, Fire Fighter requires players to drive around putting out fires. The more they put out, the more cars they’ll need to extinguish in the next level, with passengers also needing to be extinguished after the first few rounds have been completed. Given that time stacks across levels, players won’t need to worry too much about driving fast, nor should they be concerned with the best route to take as they’ll be provided with waypoints. They will, however, need to be careful to avoid destroying their Firetruck before the mission is over or picking up a wanted level and getting dragged from the vehicle and busted.

The reward for Completing the Fire Fighter Mission

Players can complete the Fire Fighter mission by finishing all twelve levels in a single run. As in Vice City before it, San Andreas rewards those who complete the Fire Fighter mission by making CJ flameproof. This can be incredibly useful, particularly in the two or three timed missions in which players need to stop and extinguish flames with a fire extinguisher before progressing. They’ll also unlock the “Rescue a Kitten Too?” trophy/achievement for their troubles as well.

Freight Train (Brown Streak / Freight)

Every Type of Vehicle Mission in Grand Theft Auto San Andreas – Definitive Edition

While the idea of driving a freight train around San Andreas sounds fun in theory, the execution is sadly a little lackluster. Players will simply need to hold the throttle to increase the train’s speed up to 45 and then feather the button to keep it from going any faster. Once the distance drops to 450, they should slam on the breaks until the speed hits 20 again and then coast through to the red marker while slowly decreasing the speed to avoid overshooting the platform. After five stops, or if the player runs out of time, the mission will end.

The reward for Completing the Freight Train Mission

There are two levels that players need to complete, after which, they’ll receive $50,000. CJ will also be able to ride on any train for free from this point onwards, though as he was technically already able to do this, this is something of a cheap reward really. Sadly, finishing both levels is required for 100% completion, meaning those who are after the associated trophies will need to get them done at some point.

Paramedic (Ambulance)

Every Type of Vehicle Mission in Grand Theft Auto San Andreas – Definitive Edition

Another returning vehicle mission, Paramedic is arguably the hardest one in the game. The time limit resets between each level, while the maximum capacity of the Ambulance forces players to plan their routes very carefully. If players use the minimap to sort patients into groups of three before they get started though, it’s definitely achievable, though as with the Firefighter missions, players should be mindful of how much damage their Ambulance is taking as completing all 12 levels will take around one hour.

The reward for Completing the Paramedic Mission

Completing all twelve levels of Paramedic in a single run will lead to players unlocking the “Saviour” Trophy/Achievement and CJ’s maximum health being increased by 50%. With this in mind, it’s good to get this Vehicle Mission out of the way early if possible, as the extra health can come in very useful during some of the more challenging missions in San Andreas.

Pimping (Broadway)

Every Type of Vehicle Mission in Grand Theft Auto San Andreas – Definitive Edition

The Pimping Vehicle Mission is one of several things in San Andreas that really hasn’t aged well. It involves CJ driving two prostitutes around town and taking a share of the money they receive from clients. Occasionally, one of these clients will get rough and CJ will have to step in, while others will attempt to run away without paying. The solution in both instances is to beat them half to death or run them down, after which players will need to drop the women off at their next destination and carry on.

The reward for Completing the Pimping Mission

The mission will end automatically once players increase their Multiplier to ten, after which, prostitutes will pay CJ for their services rather than him having to pay them. Sadly, finishing the Pimping mission is required for 100% completion and, worse still, the reward is utterly useless. The good news is that it’s at least relatively short, with players able to finish up in 20 minutes or less. Los Venturas is a good spot to tackle the mission, as not only are the destinations all along The Strip, but Broadways also spawn around the area quite often.

Taxi Driver (Taxi / Cabbie)

Every Type of Vehicle Mission in Grand Theft Auto San Andreas – Definitive Edition

Unlike the other three returning Vehicle Missions, Taxi Driver allows players to complete its requirements in multiple runs. This bodes well, as it can be incredibly boring, particularly as players are unable to listen to the radio as they work. Completing longer runs does have its advantages though, with players able to build up a healthy supply of time fairly quickly if they’re good. Getting out of the vehicle at any time will end the mission immediately, but players can at least repair their cab at a Pay ‘n’ Spray if it gets too damaged.

The reward for Completing the Taxi Driver Mission

To complete the Taxi Driver Vehicle Mission, players will need to complete fifty fares. As mentioned above, this can be done in multiple sittings as well as across multiple locations, with players able to keep track of their progress via the stats screen. Upon completion of the fiftieth fare, players will unlock the “Yes I Speak English” trophy/achievement and all taxis will gain nitrous oxide and the ability to jump.

Vigilante / Brown Thunder (Police / Military Vehicles)

Much like in Vice City, whether or not players get Vigilante or Brown Thunder depends on whether they’re traveling by land or air. Whichever they get though, the general aim of the mission remains the same: to hunt and kill criminals. Players do still need to be careful about hurting innocent people as they work though, as it’s very possible and very easy to gain a wanted level while carrying out vigilante work.

The reward for Completing the Vigilante / Brown Thunder Mission

Upon completing Vigilante or Brown Thunder’s twelfth and final level, players will unlock the “What the City Needs” trophy/achievement and also increase CJ’s maximum armor by 50%. Together with the reward for the Paramedic Vehicle Mission, this is generally considered to be one of the most useful Vehicle Mission rewards in the game and one that players should aim to pick up as early as possible. It’s easiest to do so using a Hunter, which will spawn in at the airfield in Verdant Meadows if players achieve gold medals in all of the challenges at the flight school there.
