Every Weapon In ShangChi Ranked By Power

Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings introduced a new hero to the universe, with epic martial arts to boot. While Shang-Chi’s martial arts skills were a prominent feature of the movie, the different weapons the characters used were also a key part of the plot too. The ten rings, especially, were the focus of the story, and even though they were the most powerful weapon, there were plenty of other remarkable ones that came close.

The MCU has featured some unique weaponry in several movies, from the vibranium ones in Black Panther to Thanos’ infinity gauntlet powered by the six infinity stones. Each of these were very unique, ranging from design to how powerful they are, and the same applies to those from Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Even though several weapons were made from the same material, such as the dragon scale staffs, spears, and shields, they each worked differently (with some proving to be more powerful than others).

10 Death Dealer’s Daggers

It may be smaller than a sword, but it’s proven to be just as sharp and lethal, especially in the hands of the skilled and ruthless Death Dealer. While Shang-Chi left some comic details out, the Death Dealer’s identity as a brutal henchman was mostly accurate. There really wasn’t anything remarkable about the daggers, other than their fancy design and the person wielding them. The Death Dealer barely got to use them during the final battle before his soul was taken, so their full power wasn’t seen.

Unlike other weapons in the film that were mostly ordinary until they were spruced up with the addition of materials like dragon scales, the daggers were simply ordinary daggers. They were only moderately powerful because of the skilled fighter who used them.

9 Electrified Hooked Swords

The standard weapon of the Ten Rings was the electrified hooked sword. Apart from the design and the fact that they were carried by trained assassins, there was nothing special about the swords apart from them being electrified.

With humans being vulnerable to electricity, they were certainly a dangerous weapon against men (which was particularly seen when Shang-Chi got electrocuted by one of them during the fight in Macau). However, considering he got up and continued fighting immediately after and the swords were ultimately useless in the final battle against the Soul Suckers, the swords weren’t that powerful.

8 Electrified Crossbows

The Ten Rings soldiers also used electrified crossbows, particularly during their invasion of Ta Lo. The crossbows released an electrified rope when shot, which wrapped around the target and electrocuted them.

They seemed a lot more effective than the hook swords, with longer-lasting effects, which allowed the shooter to maintain distance between them and their target while still managing to do a lot of harm. However, their biggest limitation was that the crossbows barely harmed the Soul Suckers and were useless in the final battle. Even some Ta Lo residents, who were wielding dragon scale staffs, were able to easily fend off shots from the crossbows.

7 Razor Fist’s Prosthetic Blade

The fight between Shang-Chi and Razor Fist on the bus was one of the best fight scenes in the movie as Shang-Chi valiantly ducked the laser-like sword as it cut through the bus. The combination of the sharp edge of the sword and the heated element made it a lethal weapon that could cut through anything in a way most ordinary swords wouldn’t.

Through his martial arts skills and brilliant maneuvres, Shang-Chi defeated Razor Fist, despite the powerful weapon he held. In addition, the sword didn’t work on the Soul Suckers, and when Razor Fist realized this, he broke it off and replaced it with a dragon scale blade.

6 Dragon Scale Staffs

Shang-Chi is different from other MCU movies in many ways and the dragon scale weapons featured in the movie were one of the unique things about it. When Shang-Chi, Xu Xialing, Katy, Trevor, and Morris made it to Ta Lo, they were met by an army carrying dragon scale staffs. These seemed to be one of the standard weapons used by the residents and one scene showed several men and women using them during training.

The Ta Lo residents had many dragon scale weapons and while these staffs were better than those carried by the Ten Rings, as shown when Ying Nan used one to destroy a Soul Sucker and Shang-Chi warded off Wenwu’s rings using the staff during their first battle, they weren’t as impressive of all of their other weapons.

5 Dragon Scale Spears & Shields

The combination of the spears and shields was good for the battle as they allowed those carrying them to simultaneously defend themselves and attack their opponents. Like the staffs, the dragon scales made them better weapons than ordinary spears and the sharp blades were certainly an advantage over the wooden sticks.

However, they also required being in close range with the target to be effective. The shields offered some level of protection at least but neither those nor the spears were seen much during the movie to effectively determine how much more powerful they were beyond this.

4 Dragon Scale Bow & Arrows

Almost equal in power to the staff because of the dragon scale material they were made of, the bow and arrow’s only advantages over them were their sharp edges and the fact that they could reach a further target than the staff and the spears. Due to this, they were a safer weapon too, as they didn’t require being in close contact with the target in order to be effective.

One of the best scenes of the movie that showed the superiority of the weapon was when Katy shot an arrow into the Mega Soul Sucker’s throat, stopping it from sucking the soul of the Great Protector and helping Shang-Chi defeat it once and for all. She had only learned to shoot arrows the day before, but the move reinforced that Katy was the bravest character in Shang-Chi.

3 Xu Xialing’s Rope Dart

Xu Xialing’s specialty weapon was a rope dart, which had sentimental value to her as it was the first weapon she used when she trained in secret as a young girl in the Ten Rings headquarters. Her secret training sessions helped her master the weapon and hone her martial arts skills as well.

Ying Nan giving her a similar weapon (made of dragon scale) while she watched the women and men training together in Ta Lo was such a wonderful, full-circle moment. Combined with her martial arts skills, the rope dart was a powerful tool in her hands, which she used to take down several Soul Suckers and fight against the Mega Soul Sucker as well.

2 Wenwu’s Ten Rings

The premise of the movie hinged on the Ten rings and their immense power. They were powerful enough to give Wenwu the strength of a god and the gift of eternal life. However, after wearing them for too long, they also caused him to hallucinate his dead wife.

Using the rings, Wenwu single-handedly attacked the men who had killed his wife and they were the only things powerful enough to free the Dweller in the Darkness. Nevertheless, despite this great power, Wenwu could still be defeated while wearing the rings as the opening scene of the film showed during his fight with Ying Li.

1 Shang-Chi’s Ten Rings

Shang-Chi might have taken the same rings his father wielded for thousands of years, but they seemed a lot more powerful in his hands. The first indication of this was during one of the best fight scenes in the MCU when Shang-Chi took them all from his father and stopped himself from using them to kill him. In his possession, the rings even changed color and took on a fiery-gold hue.

Combining everything he inherited from and was taught by his mother and father, Shang-Chi wielded the rings in a way that Wenwu never had before and destroyed the Mega Soul Sucker once and for all, surpassing all other weapons that the guardians of Ta Lo had used on the monster.
