Everything Tekken 7 Season 4 Adds

Through its almost six-year run from arcades to consoles, Tekken 7 has continued to see updates and support from Bandai-Namco as its premier fighting game. With over 25 years of history behind it, the Tekken series continues to stand out as the leading 3D fighting game. With the Season 4 update coming to Tekken 7, Bandai-Namco looks to keep the trend going with some long-awaited updates and changes to the game’s systems.

Having released in arcades back in 2015, Tekken 7 launched with a roster of 20 characters during its initial run. Through numerous updates in the arcade version (including the “Fated Retribution” update that served as the base for the console version) as well as the DLC updates made in the console version, the selection of characters has since expanded to a startling 49, with guests from various franchises stepping in alongside the Tekken crew. Season 4 looks to add two more characters to the game’s impressive roster.

As shown in the official reveal trailer during the Tekken Online Challenge, Tekken 7’s 4th Season of content reintroduces an old classic character in the form of Kunimitsu, making her first canonical return to the series since Tekken 2. Rather than the original character, however, she returns in the form of the daughter taking the name for herself in pursuit of her target. In addition to Kunimitsu’s return and her accompanying new stage, Season 4 is also adding tweaks under the hood for fans of the latest title.

What is in Tekken 7 Season 4 & When Does It Launch?

The Tekken 7 netcode has often been a point of much discussion, with its brand of rollback netcode having come under criticism in its implementation. Tekken 7’s Season 4 update intends to bring changes to how the game handles its online play, with the promise of smoother netplay across the board. Along with the improvements to the netcode itself, Tekken 7 Season 4 will also add a Wifi indicator, allowing players to see if their opponent is playing the game on a Wifi or a wired connection before accepting their challenge.

In keeping with the tradition of the big seasonal updates for Tekken 7, the roster will be undergoing numerous balance changes as well to bring them into the new season with a fresh start. This balancing update will also include new moves for Tekken 7’s roster of characters, giving players new tools in each character’s arsenal while also slightly increasing the health and damage scaling of wall combos. This sort of update has become a norm for Tekken 7 since the Season 2 update, eschewing the concept of a new Tekken game in favor of including updates that would often be reserved for the next title, such as new attack properties and new moves.

Tekken 7’s new update launches separately from Kunimitsu’s return to the roster, as the update launched on November 9th along with new customization items featuring Pac-Man, with Kunimitsu’s return to the roster and her new stage following the next day on November 10th. The rest of Season 4’s content looks to launch in Spring of 2021, with a new character and a new stage bringing the Tekken 7 roster to 51 characters by the end of Season 4.
