The launch of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition has been notoriously disastrous, but updates have been rolling out in an attempt to clean up the mess. The three remastered classics launched in such a bad state, Rockstar actually admitted failure and promised that multiple updates would address the issues. A significant patch has now made its way to every platform that GTA: The Trilogy launched on, though it arrived on the Nintendo Switch a few days later than the rest.
GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition promised to re-release the series’ PlayStation 2 era classics in a new, revamped state. The new art style was already divisive among fans, but the technical state of the game on launch was universally ridiculed. Character models and textures were riddled with bugs, the game’s ambient rain effects were clearly broken, and there were multiple holes allowing players to fall through the game world. The GTA Trilogy update fixes over 100 bugs in total, addressing many instances of these problems, among others.
Another, very minor update in comparison was released a few days after the larger one, specifically targeting driving controls on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Overall, this batch of fixes is a good step in the right direction. GTA: The Trilogy’s launch was perhaps the most widely criticized since Cyberpunk 2077, and paying customers deserve a satisfactory product. There still seems to be a long way to go, though, with GTA fans debating the update’s effectiveness as new bugs continue to appear and mods come out that even further improve the visuals.
