One hilariously talented Elden Ring fan has created a fake season pass for the upcoming action role-playing game, including features like free boss skips, a Kanye West skin, and access to a fictional Bloodborne PC beta. FromSoftware’s upcoming title will take the classic “soulslike” genre of action RPGs and transport it into a massive open-world setting. While the highly-anticipated adventure is set to launch in February 2022, a recent Elden Ring closed network test gave some lucky gamers a chance to try out the ambitious upcoming game.

FromSoftware jumpstarted the soulslike genre with 2009’s Demon’s Souls, and the lineage of unforgiving action titles has been carried on by titles such as the Dark Souls trilogy, Bloodborne, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. As the next installment in this epic lineage, Elden Ring looks to build upon core pillars such as challenging combat, intricate lore, and masterful level design. However, FromSoftware’s next project will bring these elements into an open-world format, giving players the freedom to explore the fictional world of The Lands Between and thoroughly customize their player character’s class, appearance, and abilities. Several staple mechanics have been tweaked and improved, with Elden Ring’s unique magic system building upon the foundations and variations established by Dark Souls and Bloodborne.

In a clever critique of the video game industry, Reddit user Cooz78 has designed a fake Elden Ring season pass that is unfortunately realistic. The hilarious mock-up is filled with humorous tidbits, such as a pre-order bonus that gives players access to a “John Dark Souls” skin in Fortnite and a (sadly fictional) beta for Bloodborne on PC. The funny fan-made pass itself is said to contain boss skip cards, in-game “Elden Coin” currency and an hour of double XP, which would all be typical inclusions in a AAA game’s real season pass. Perhaps the most notable part of the battle pass is the chance to play through the open-world adventure as rapper Kanye West, dubbed Yeezus in the image in honor of his 2013 album of the same name. The make-believe pass serves to both poke fun at the gaming industry and appreciate how FromSoftware handles its projects in a more respectful way.

While FromSoftware fans are all itching to play Elden Ring, the developer’s PlayStation-exclusive 2015 project Bloodborne still maintains a large and loyal fanbase. The game took Dark Souls’ basic mechanics and brought them to the gothic horror-inspired city of Yharnam, with trick weapons and increased speed giving the game a uniquely aggressive combat style. Rumors of a Bloodborne PC port have existed since the title’s release, but recent PC ports of other PlayStation games like Death Stranding and God of War have reignited these rumors. While players certainly will not gain access to a Bloodborne beta through an Elden Ring battle pass, time will tell whether the Lovecraftian action game ever legitimately finds its way to PC.

While season passes have become a huge part of AAA gaming, FromSoftware tends to bring more nuance to the table. A battle pass for Elden Ring is already an absurd idea, but the contents of Cooz78’s mock-up make the concept truly hilarious. Boss skip cards would obviously destroy the balance of the open-world action game, and the suggestion of in-game microtransactions is ludicrous. While Kanye West’s absence from Elden Ring could be considered unfortunate, soulslike fans should still be relieved that this battle pass was merely made in jest.
