Fast And Furious 5 Vinces Death Explained

He was one of the original members of Dom’s crew, but here’s how Vince died in Fast Five. The Fast And The Furious franchise has been a wild ride for all involved. The original movie from 2001 was a modestly budgeted action film set in the world of street racing and was based on a magazine article. The film made stars out of Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, and Paul Walker, but Diesel decided to pass on a sequel. Walker returned for 2 Fast 2 Furious, but third entry The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift focused on new protagonist Sean Boswell. This was the lowest-grossing of the series and seemed to signal the end, but a cameo by Diesel in the final scene got audiences excited about Dom making a return.

Fast & Furious went the extra step by reuniting all four of the original main characters and was a robust success. Fast Five took a gamble by moving away from the street racing formula to focus on a heist, which paid off beautifully. This entry introduced Dwayne Johnson’s Hobbs and featured the best action sequences of the series. It was a genuine blockbuster and is lauded as one of the most entertaining action films of the 2010s. The series has gone from strength to strength in the years since and received spinoffs like Hobbs & Shaw, while the next movie F9 will arrive in 2021.

The action in the series is now so outlandish that the original The Fast And The Furious feels relatively grounded in comparison. One member of Dom’s original crew was Vince (Matt Schulze), who is suspicious of Brian from the moment they meet. He continues being douchey and unpleasant to Brian throughout the movie, but in his defense, he’s correct. Vince ends the movie badly injured after a truck heist gone wrong, and his arm is sliced up after he gets tangled in a wire.

Vince isn’t seen again until Fast Five, which reveals he moved to Rio following the first movie where he met wife Rosa and they had a son. Vince pulls Brian, Dom, and Mia into a car heist, which turns out to be seized property by the DEA. One of the cars contains a chip that contains the locations of crime lord Reyes’ sizable money stashes. Vince betrays the team by trying to recover this chip and selling it back to Reyes on his own. Dom later lets him back into the crew – because he’s a big softie – but they’re eventually captured by Hobbs.

A major turning point in Fast Five sees Reyes men ambush Hobbs’ convoy, wiping out his team. Dom and the gang come to the rescue, saving Hobbs from the gunmen. Vince helps lay down cover fire, but during their escape, but it’s revealed he was fatally wounded during the battle. He shares some parting words with Dom before passing on. With Vince’s death – assuming he’s not secretly alive like many of the franchise’s other “deceased” heroes – only Leon (Johnny Strong) is uncounted for from Dom’s original crew, though there’s no sign of that character making a return.
