Fast & Furious The 10 Best Characters Introduced After The First Movie

It’s impressive to consider what the Fast & Furious franchise has become. What started as a simple movie about street racing and low-level crime in 2001 has become a multi-billion dollar series where the characters consistently save the world and are basically superheroes at this point.

The core of the story is still all about family and that includes the characters who were part of the first entry. Dom, Letty, Brian, and Mia appeared in most of the installments but the group has grown a lot since. Starting with the second film, characters debuted who were comedic relief, villains, geniuses, and so much more.

10 Owen Shaw

When audiences were first introduced to Owen Shaw, it was as the antagonist in Fast & Furious 6. He put together a team that included an amnesiac Letty Ortiz. He proved to be a formidable foe and by the end of the movie, he was taken out and presumed dead.

It turns out that he was alive and after his brother looked to avenge him in Furious 7, the Shaws became allies to the main team. Owen doesn’t get as much screen time as Deckard but he was always entertaining. Owen is tough, vicious, smart, and like Dom’s crew, loyal to his family.

9 Elena Neves

At first glance, it didn’t seem like Elena Neves would play a huge part in the story. She was a member of the military police team put together by Luke Hobbs and could’ve come across as just someone who works for him. However, she quickly formed a bond with Dom in Fast Five.

They started a relationship and Elena was as understanding as it got. When she found out that Letty was alive, she knew that Dom had to get her back and didn’t stand in their way. Elena proved to be a good friend, watching Hobbs’s kid when he was injured. As the mother of Dom’s child, she will always be part of the story even if she was killed.

8 Cipher

Being the villain after the Shaw brothers meant that Cipher had a lot to live up to. Thankfully, she proved to be even more cunning and heartless than them. The cyberterrorist has lofty goals and is willing to do whatever it takes to attain them, including kidnapping and threatening a baby.

While Cipher doesn’t win out by the end of The Fate of the Furious, she does get Dom to at least partially turn on his family. The trailers for F9 reveal that she is still at large and working with Dom’s brother. As the woman who actually hired the Shaws, she’s the closest thing to an overarching villain.

7 Megan Ramsey

Nobody on Dom’s team expected that the brilliant creator of God’s Eye would become such a pivotal part of the group. Alas, Megan Ramsey ended up becoming close with the family and is especially used in scenes alongside Tej and Roman to comedic effect.

Though the guys pine over her, she isn’t easily fooled and always bites back with a witty remark. Ramsey is a brave and beautiful genius who fits in surprisingly well given her role. As a hacker, Ramsey is kind of a redundant character considering Tej’s part but they make it work well together.

6 Deckard Shaw

Fast & Furious 6 ended with a bang as the outcome of Han’s death from Tokyo Drift was shown and it was revealed that Deckard Shaw was behind it. That immediately made him a force to be reckoned with and his battles with Dom throughout Furious 7 are among the franchise’s best.

Deckard also proved to be a great foil for Luke Hobbs, with the two brawling often before working well as uneasy partners. His relationship with those other characters is what makes him so entertaining and everyone loved his Fate of the Furious scene where he saved Dom’s son.

5 Gisele Yashar

Fast & Furious The 10 Best Characters Introduced After The First Movie

This franchise has seemingly always been a place where someone can find strong female characters. While Letty and Mia are the icons of the series, Gisele Yashar is right up there with them. She first appeared in Fast & Furious as a liaison for the film’s villain.

She ultimately developed feelings for Dom but not much came of it. Gisele returned for Fast Five and proved to be as adept at using her good looks to her advantage as she was at using her field experience and brain. Her romance with Han was sweet and the sacrifice she made in Fast & Furious 6 was an emotional gut punch.

4 Roman Pearce

Roman Pearce, also known as Rome, started out as a kind of replacement for Dom. With no Vin Diesel in 2 Fast 2 Furious, Rome was brought in to be the teammate of Brian and it mostly worked out since the two actors played so well off of each other.

When he returned in Fast Five, Rome’s role changed. He became the comic relief and is now the brunt of the jokes. Rome irritates everyone around him and thinks he’s more pivotal than he is, which all makes for some of the franchise’s funniest and most memorable moments.

3 Tej Parker

Speaking of 2 Fast 2 Furious, it also marked the arrival of Tej Parker. Along the same lines as Roman, Tej is someone who changed significantly from his debut. He showed up as Brian’s old friend who used to race but had since stopped due to an injury.

Upon rejoining Brian and the team, Tej was suddenly a brilliant hacker who handled most of the tech stuff. It felt like a bit of a stretch but Tej has become a beloved member of the family. He’s sharp, funny, and seems to have a strong bond with everyone he interacts with.

2 Luke Hobbs

It’s rather fitting that the series transforming from being about street racing to being something involving saving the world and superhero-like events coincides with the arrival of Luke Hobbs. The stakes were raised as soon as he showed up and Dwayne Johnson’s charisma lit up the screen.

First working against the team, Hobbs proved to be both a great foil and a tremendous partner throughout his appearances. Hobbs has seemingly had less to do with each passing installment but there’s a reason he’s at the front of the Hobbs & Shaw spin-off.

1 Han Lue

A lot of fans initially overlooked Tokyo Drift since it didn’t star the original cast. However, there was a lot to like about that film, including Han Lue. He quickly became friends with Sean Boswell and was the scene-stealer, so his death hurt more than most.

Chronologically, the next three films came before Tokyo Drift, so the audience got to see him at Dom’s side. He was a valuable member of the team, someone who made the audience laugh, and his relationship with Gisele was adored. Fans were ecstatic when he was revealed to be returning for F9.
