Fear Street Part 3 1666 PostCredits Scene Explained

Netflix’s Fear Street Part 3: 1666 ends on a seemingly happy note, but its spooky, unexplained post-credits scene implies there is more mayhem and bloodshed to come. Loosely based on R.L. Stine’s series of ’90s horror novels, the Fear Street trilogy finally wraps up Shadyside’s centuries-long history of terror…or does it? Deena, Sam, and company may not be out of the woods completely, due to the item shown at the end of the film.

Fear Street Part 1: 1994 and Fear Street Part 2: 1978 culminates in Fear Street Part 3: 1666’s shocking twist, which reveals that Sheriff Nick Goode and his ancestors began Shadyside’s misfortune by serving the devil. When Deena reunites Sarah Fier’s hand with the rest of her remains, she sees what truly happened through Sarah’s eyes. Sarah, long thought to be an evil witch who cursed the land, was merely a pawn in Nick’s predecessor Solomon Goode’s efforts for wealth and success. Falsely accused of witchcraft by the townspeople, Sarah seeks shelter in Solomon Goode’s house. There she discovers the underground maze where he worships the devil and offers a townsperson to be possessed in exchange for prosperity.

Sarah meets her end after Solomon delivers her to the townspeople to be hanged. Before she dies, she vows that his truth will be revealed in time. Flash forward to Fear Street 1666: Part 3, where Deena (Kiana Madeira) and team plot to end the Goodes’ reign over Shadyside once and for all. Though lifting the curse seems to be successful — during a struggle with Sheriff Goode in the caverns, Deena stabs him in the eye — a scene during the credits suggests otherwise. As the credits roll over Deena and Sam sharing a kiss by Sarah Fier’s grave, the camera pans over the trees to Shadyside Mall, through the doors down to the underground ritual site, now marked as a crime scene. The charred book of spells that Solomon Goode stole from the widow in the woods in 1666 lays on the floor. Just as the scene cuts to black, someone off-screen grabs the book.

The book is clearly seen at the end of Fear Street 3: 1666 when Deena is traveling through the ritual chamber with Sam. Since Deena has seen it through Sarah’s memory, it would make sense if she tried to destroy it after killing Nick. But perhaps she was too shellshocked to notice the book was even there. In terms of who grabbed the book, it may very well be another Goode family member. Even though Sheriff Goode may be dead, his immediate family is not. In his deal with the devil, his brother Will Goode also benefited by becoming mayor of adjoining town Sunnyvale.

While a news report claims that the Goode family was unaware of the sheriff’s insidious deeds, it is entirely possible that Will knows about the book and his family’s insidious legacy and wants to take matters into his own hands. It would spell disaster for Shadyside and the teens who just risked their lives to save it. Netflix has not yet announced Fear Street Part 4, but Fear Street Part 3: 1666’s post-credits scene may very well tease a potential continuation to the series.
