Fear TWD Makes A Surprising Character Responsible For Fixing Morgan

WARNING: The following contains SPOILERS for Fear The Walking Dead season 7, episode 6, “Reclamation.”

Morgan has changed over the course of Fear The Walking Dead, and season 7 reveals a surprising character is responsible for fixing him. Morgan has gone through a much-needed transition that has allowed him to find balance in the two extremes of his life. FTWD season 7, episode 6 “Reclamation,” offers an explanation for why. There have been many figures in Morgan’s life who have impacted and changed him for the better, but there is one particular person who helped him overcome his greatest flaws — and the one in question is likely not who viewers would expect.

Morgan spends his tenure on The Walking Dead struggling with what type of survivor he wants to be: he bounces between the two extremes of being either a pacifist who believes “all life is precious” or a ruthless killer who needs to “clear.” Come season 8’s end, he decides that he has to leave in order to find himself again. Fortunately, he does just that. While some audiences felt that Morgan’s Walking Dead arc became inconsistent, this is much improved in the sequel series.

The character who ultimately is responsible for fixing Morgan in FTWD is surprising as it’s not Rick, Carol, John Dorie, or even Grace. It’s actually Althea (played by Maggie Grace). She does this through her process of interviewing other survivors so that they can tell their “story.” When looking at it through this perspective, it makes a lot of sense why it is Al who can help Morgan become the man he is now.

By the end of The Walking Dead, Morgan has forgotten who he is and seems set to head out into the world to either find himself again or simply wander. It isn’t until Morgan runs into Fear The Walking Dead’s John Dorie that he starts to open up again. But it’s Al who is truly able to get through to him; she is able to get Morgan to talk about his past and who he believes himself to be, which, in turn, allows him to rediscover himself and become better in the process.

Not only does Morgan find balance in his personality, but he also becomes a leader working to build a better future and even finds love and family again with Grace and baby Mo. And if there isn’t any indication before season 7 that Al is responsible for this, throughout season 5, she and Morgan make it a project to conduct interviews with every survivor the group comes across in their quest to help others. This shows that he believes Al’s work helps people because it helped to save him from himself.

The new Morgan in Fear The Walking Dead is thanks to Al. Now that she has exited the series, it’ll be interesting to see how her absence will affect him now that viewers know the full impact she had. Regardless, Al being responsible for fixing Morgan and helping him achieve his character growth makes her one of the most important characters in The Walking Dead franchise.
