Final Fantasy XIV How Crafting Collectables Works After New Patch 53

Final Fantasy XIV has been updated earlier this month. Among the new features include a brand new Beast Tribe featuring the surly Dwarves of the First Shard. The patch also brings along an expanded free trial, allowing players to reach level 60 and experience all of the Heavensward expansion. This can easily allow players to reach former end game content and gain the strongest gear from the base game and first expansion.

Besides the large content changes, there is also some nice quality of life updates. Crafters should be aware that the long-standing Collectable crafted items have gone through a few changes to make them more intuitive and easier to keep track of. This should make it easier for players of all levels to advance their Disciple of Hand classes and gain fast Gil.

Streamlined Collectables in Final Fantasy XIV

Patch 5.3 has removed the Collectable Synthesis status ability first introduced in Heavensward. Previously, players had the choice of creating a standard version of the item, or a collectible alternative. In many cases the standard item had no practical purpose; they couldn’t be equipped by players or used in housing. Converting to a standard was often a last resort to sell to NPC shops in case the daily collectible attribute wasn’t achieved during synthesis. Now, all Collectable goods automatically form in their Collectable version without any secondary prompt from the crafter. The associated recipes now occupy their own special section in the crafting menu, under the star bag tab. They are further divided into level ranges of 50-60, 61-70, and 71-80.

The final collectible score of an item is still governed by the Control attribute and Quality related actions. Players will want to equip items with maximum Control, while consuming food and potions that directly boost Control or grant additional crafting points (CP) for more Quality based actions.

Old Collectables and Turn-Ins

With the removal of the synthesis also come changes to Rowena’s House of Splendors in Idyllshire, its Rhalgr’s Reach outpost, and other associated vendors. These establishments will now have a static turn-in list and will not change or provide a daily bonus. Also, all Collectable data has been added to Square Enix’s official Eorzea Database. The House of Splendors also only accepts newly made items under the new system. Anything that was forged using the old synthesis method can be given to the Collectable Dealer in Mor Dhona for consolation rewards.

Role of Collectables in Final Fantasy XIV

Despite the removal of Collectable Synthesis, the overall functionality of Collectable crafting remains the same. Players should still be level 50 in a Disciple of the Hand and complete the quest Inscrutable Tastes from Morgayne in Ishgard Foundation X:10 Y:10.4. Turning in items to the House of Splendors will award large amounts of EXP, Gil, and later on Yellow and White Crafter Scrips. These Scrips can then be used to purchase new items, recipes, materia, and music. Around 2000 Yellow Scrips can outfit a full level 70 crafter, and 3000 White Scrips for a new level 80. Scrips can even be converted down to older Blue Scrips and be used to improve the ultimate weapons from Heavensward, the Anima Lux.

Collectables are still important when making Custom Delivers to NPCs around Eorzea, who base rewards on how well the item is made. By finishing the level 56 quest No Longer a Collectable from Lydirlona in Mor Dhona X: 22.3 Y:6.8, unwanted Collectables can be desynthesized into crystals and unique crafting materials. Fans of the whole Final Fantasy series can also gain achievement points from crafting and delivering Collectables. After gaining enough points, one can meet Jonathas in Old Gridania who will award prizes based on classic characters like Gilgamesh, Odin, and Firion.

Collectables are helpful to all Disciples of the Hand. This will be especially true for those still playing the expanded trial that includes Heavenward. Without access to the public Market Boards or linkshell chat rooms, Collectables will be one of the most consistent means of acquiring extra Gil and equipment.
