First MagSafe Alternative For Android Gets Huge Speed Boost

Android finally has an answer to Apple’s MagSafe wireless charging system, and it’s called MagDart. Over the course of the past week, Chinese smartphone maker Realme has been dropping teasers about a whole ecosystem of products that take advantage of its magnetic wireless charging system whose name bears an uncanny resemblance to what Apple has gone with. However, Realme’s solution appears to have one-upped Apple even before its market arrival. Leaks had already revealed a charging pack with a fan inside, one that could deliver a peak charging output of 50W.

In comparison, MagSafe tops out at 15W for the iPhone 12. Since the debut of the MagSafe charging puck, Apple has also launched a couple of accessories such as a battery pack, protective case, and even a wallet that takes advantage of the magnetic ring system. However, multiple third-party MagSafe accessories that are more versatile and cost less than Apple’s own products have since hit the market. In particular, the likes of Belkin, Mophie, and Moshi are among the few brands that are making the most of this certification. Now it appears as though the rival solution for Android will eclipse the MagSafe ecosystem in a single swoop.

Realme has introduced a total of seven MagDart products in one go. More importantly, the company is also opening the MagDart standard to other brands for implementation and making more accessories. The crown jewel from Realme’s announcement is the 50W MagDart charger, which comes equipped with a fan inside to regulate airflow and keep things cool while juicing up a phone. Realme claims it to be the fastest magnetic wireless charging solution for phones and it is said to fully top up a 4,500 mAh capacity battery in just 54 minutes, while going from 0-20-percent takes merely five minutes. The first phone that will arrive with support for MagDart is the flagship Realme Flash, and a wider commercial rollout is expected to happen in 2022.

MagDart Is A Lot Faster Than MagSafe, And More Versatile Too

Next in line is the 15W MagDart charging puck that looks a lot like Apple’s own MagSafe charger, but the former is roughly 25-percent slimmer and a lot faster. The MagSafe charger takes over three hours to fully charge the iPhone 12’s sub-3,000 mAh battery, while the Realme 15W MagDart charger claims to top up a 4,500 mAh battery in just 90 minutes. Realme has also done a slight hardware modification here by moving the mainboard to the plug area in order to separate the heating parts and maintain a steady charging speed.

Next in line is the MagDart Power Bank, which takes inspiration from Apple’s own MagSafe battery pack. Realme’s offering, however, employs a vegan leather cover and an aluminum frame to achieve a solid build and premium looks. There’s also an answer to Apple’s magnetic wallet, and it’s called MagDart Wallet. Sporting a vegan leather exterior, this one also has a nifty metallic kickstand too. There’s also a niche product called MagDart Beauty Light that has a 60 LED array to help vloggers achieve better lighting for their videos. Finally, the company also launched a special carbon fiber case with a magnetic ring that adds wireless charging support to its Realme GT smartphone.
