First Tesla Cybertruck Deliveries Wont Arrive Before 2022

A recent email reportedly sent to Tesla Cybertruck reservation holders has called into question when the highly anticipated electric truck will actually be delivered. The language Tesla has maintained on its website suggests that these vehicles will enter production in late 2021, which has largely been interpreted as when deliveries would also start up. As it turns out, Tesla’s timeline may be a bit skewed.

The Cybertruck was unveiled by Tesla CEO Elon Musk at an event in 2019, and features a futuristic design along with three different models ranging from $39,900 to $69,000. The reported specs for the Tesla are impressive, including a driving range of as much as 500 miles for the top model and towing capability of up to 14,000 pounds. Thousands of pre-orders for the Cybertruck have already been made, leaving one big question – when will this groundbreaking electric truck hit the open road?

According to emails provided to Electrek, reservation holders may have to wait until 2022 to get their Cybertruck delivered. In reality, the emails echo the Tesla website by stating production is scheduled to begin in late 2021. However, what the website does not disclose (and the emails do) is that delivery for dual and tri-motor configuration Cybertrucks aren’t expected until early 2022. For those who reserved a single motor configuration, they’ll reportedly have to wait until early 2023 for delivery.

Is Reserving A Cybertruck Worth It?

With all signs pointing towards the Cybertruck not being ready for delivery until 2022 at the earliest, it might be enough for potential customers to wonder whether reserving one of these vehicles is a worthwhile move. After all, the Cybertruck is still very much a concept. Even when it does arrive, it could still face issues and flaws that tend to be common with new vehicle models. That being said, the risk-versus-reward factor with the Cybertruck is pretty attractive. It’s only $100 to reserve one of the electric trucks, and Tesla says that initial expenditure is fully refundable if customers change their mind. There’s still plenty of costs left to be accounted for, including an extra $10,000 to add full self-driving capabilities to the Cybertruck. However, $100 is a small price to pay to have the opportunity to own this futuristic truck.

So far, it’s a risk that many have taken, and likely because of what Tesla says this behemoth will be able to do. From the excellent towing capacity to the sheer speed of the truck – Tesla says the tri-motor, all-wheel drive model will do 0-60 MPH in 2.9 seconds – the Cybertruck is expected to be unlike anything else currently on the road, even if it’s going to take some time before Tesla’s all-electric spectacle becomes a reality.
