Free Guy The Main Characters Sorted Into Their Hogwarts Houses

Free Guy, starring the fan-favorite Ryan Reynolds, came to theaters on August 13th and was available for streaming on September 28th. People who have seen the action-comedy film about a video game NPC who becomes sentient will agree that there are a ton of different personalities among the main cast of characters.

From passionate coders to success-driven businessmen, there are many dispositions among the group. Besides zodiacs and Meyers-Briggs, another tried and true personality test is that of Harry Potter’s Hogwarts houses, and the characters of Free Guy fit nicely into the four categories.

8 Mr. Buttons: Slytherin

Mr. Buttons, whose player is Channing Tatum, isn’t concerned with too much besides being a successful streamer, which he is. He’s a notorious leader as “sunglasses guy” – as stated by Guy at the beginning of the movie – and he’s familiar enough with the game and resourceful enough to be able to access the secret hideout where the video footage of Millie’s and Key’s code is.

Even when faced with real A.I., Mr. Buttons’s main concern is telling his viewers about it and getting Guy to say his catchphrase. His happiness is based on the response of viewers and the success of his stream.

6 Mouser: Gryffindor

Mouser gives off big Fred and George energy. The twins were the goofy and lovable pranksters of Hogwarts, and although there are many reasons Fred and George shouldn’t have been the main characters of Harry Potter, their role in the story was still important.

Mouser was Keys’s good friend and was loyal to him throughout the storyline, even when his antagonist boss, Antoine, was ordering him around. He bravely defied Antoine to help Keys and Millie, truly embodying the main traits of Gryffindor. He sacrificed his own career (seemingly, at the time) to do the right thing.

5 Buddy: Hufflepuff

Buddy, and many of the NPC’s, have the happy-go-lucky attitude of a Hufflepuff. They’re true and loyal friends. Buddy is always there for Guy, and he even says that he wouldn’t care if he was real or not, because the moments between them have been real to him.

He’s an honest guy with the patience to live through monotony day in and day out, with zero complaints. He may be timid, but when push comes to shove, he faced his fears in order to be there for his best friend. He works hard at his job but when he’s free of that, he just enjoys the simple pleasures of the new world that is his home.

4 Keys: Ravenclaw

Keys is the proverbial brains behind Millie’s operation to prove that Antoine stole their code. He’s incredibly witty, coming up with comebacks and jokes as he and Mouser are hunting Blue Shirt Guy, but he also is a passionate learner. In his own words, code is what gets him up in the morning.

He’s fully committed himself to his job and loves learning new things about it. The idea that his and Millie’s work could win a Nobel Prize renders him literally speechless. He’s wise enough to know that it’s easier to take down Antoine’s operation from the inside and smart enough to be able to do it. He also has the kind heart of Luna Lovegood, one of the best Ravenclaws.

3 Antwan: Slytherin

While it might seem to be a cheap shot to sort the film’s antagonist into the Slytherin house, there’s a good reason for it. Antwan is a natural leader; he wouldn’t have been able to amass the success that he’s had with his company without that trait.

Additionally, his main goal is success, which means that he has ambition. His success may be quantified by money instead of information or experience, but it’s still success in his eyes. He also uses cunning and resourcefulness at the same time when he takes the code that Millie and Keys created in order to build the world of Free City.

2 Millie: Slytherin

Millie covets her intellectual successes much more than other characters. She’s protective of her achievements and uses the resources of the game built around her stolen code in order to prove herself. She is ambitious, as she sees the potential for her and Key’s work and wants to take it further. She is a hero in the story, but it wouldn’t be the first time a Slytherin was heroic.

She’s also cunning, as she outsmarts other players and security in order to complete her mission. She teaches Guy how to be successful in the game, and watches out for him while also guiding him through what he needs to do. She will literally do anything to reach her goals, and that is a true Slytherin.

1 Guy: Hufflepuff/Gryffindor

Guy’s character has a bit more nuance because of his sentient awakening. At his core being, he’s a true and honest, loyal friend. He has the patience to work hard through a hundred levels of the game to even get to talk to Millie. He wants the best for the people that he cares about, and doesn’t want to hurt innocent people to get to where he needs to be.

But, he’s also very brave – fighting players and doing things he’s never done before to feel alive and help Millie. He has the nerve to think on his feet and get himself out of sticky situations with Keys and Mouser and the buff version of himself at the end. In many ways, he’s like Neville Longbottom – who had reasons to be Hufflepuff or Gryffindor. Therefore, an even split of Hufflepuff and Gryffindor makes the most sense.
