When Friends first aired in 1994, no one anticipated the massive cultural impact it would have. Throughout its decade long reign, the six friends had their fair share of tear-jerking moments, hilarious hijinks, and shocking plot twists. While each of the characters was influential in their own right, Rachel is often seen as the friend who left the biggest impact on the viewers.

From the second Rachel stumbled into Central Perk, in her wedding dress and veil, her life was forever changed. Over the course of the show, viewers follow Rachel through a series of career changes, romantic disasters, and personal growth. Through all of the ups and downs, she faced there were certainly moments that stood out from the rest.

10 Best: The Trifle

In the Thanksgiving episode of season six, Rachel challenges herself to cook dessert for the group. While this may seem like a generous thing for her to do, it’s actually probably one of the worst things she’s ever done to the friends (but one of the best things she’s ever done for the viewers).

What was supposed to be a traditional English layered dessert, made up of fruit and pudding, turned into a sweet and savory dish featuring ladyfingers, jam, raspberries, and beef. Towards the end of the episode, viewers got to watch the friends try the dish and scramble to come up with ways to get out of eating it.

9 Worst: Stealing Phoebe’s Ideas

In “The One with Ross’s Sandwich,” Phoebe invites Rachel to attend her Literature class with her. Unfortunately for Phoebe, Rachel does not take the class nearly as seriously as she is supposed to. For starters, Rachel shows up late to her very first class and reveals to Phoebe that she hadn’t even read the assigned book.

Rachel then asks Phoebe for her take on the book and then proceeds to steal Phoebe’s ideas, leaving Phoebe with nothing to say when it’s her turn to speak. This scene just revealed how self-centered Rachel could be at times, and was an example of how poorly she occasionally treated her friends throughout the show.

8 Best: Marrying Ross In Vegas

Ross and Rachel are the original “will they/won’t they” couple. Every single season, fans are taken deeper into their tumultuous relationship, as it goes through a series of unexpected twists and turns. While some viewers don’t think Ross and Rachel belong together, others wanted nothing more than to see them end up with one another.

For the latter, watching Ross and Rachel finally get married in Las Vegas, even though they were intoxicated at the time of their nuptials, was certainly a highlight of the series. Watching the pair spend their brief honeymoon in their Vegas hotel room playing cards while Rachel walked around with a sharpie mustache and beard on her face gave fans a peek into what married life could be like for the friends.

7 Worst: Convincing Ross’s New Girlfriend To Shave Her Head

In the season 3 finale, Rachel convinces Ross’s new love interest, Bonnie, to shave her head because she knows that it will make Ross less attracted to her and potentially break them up.

Rachel does this out of pure jealousy because seeing Ross with Bonnie made her realize that she was still in love with him and wanted him back. This story arc for Rachel was definitely one of the most unflattering. It just showed how ruthless Rachel was when it came to getting what she wanted.

6 Best: Winning Back The Apartment

Monica’s rent-controlled apartment was at the center of many of the show’s best moments. When she allowed Rachel to move in with her in season 1, it was like the start of a new era for the group and the apartment itself. However, it was a game-changer when the writers decided to have Chandler and Joey and Rachel and Monica swap apartments.

After a while, the girls are sick of their new situation and decide to do whatever it takes to get it back. This is without a doubt one of the most hilarious and high-stakes episodes of the entire series. It’s also an episode where Rachel’s competitive nature and determination shines even more than Monica’s.

5 Worst: Hiring Tag

After watching Rachel go from never working a day in her life, to waitressing at Central Perk, to reaching career heights in the fashion industry, it was disappointing to see her hire Tag in season seven.

She chose him to be her assistant over a more qualified woman because she found him attractive. She then begins to date her assistant and even tells everyone he is gay so that no one else would try to pursue him. Not only was this, by far, one of the most callous things she ever did but it also led to one of her worst relationships too.

4 Best: Eating The Cheesecakes

One of the most unforgettable episodes from the show is “The One with All the Cheesecakes.” This episode offers a glimpse into Rachel and Chandler’s hilarious friendship. It starts off with the pair discovering that their neighbor’s cheesecake was actually delivered to Chandler’s apartment by mistake.

They decide to embrace the happy accident and eat the entire dessert themselves. They love the flavor and taste of it so much that went and stole the second cake that was delivered to their neighbor. The funniest thing about this storyline they end up dropping it and eating it right off the floor.

3 Worst: Rachel And Joey

By far one of the most controversial plotlines of the entire series was the relationship between Rachel and Joey. Most fans absolutely hated when the characters became romantically involved with one another. They felt that it was an unnecessary story arc added in at the end of the series because the writers didn’t know where else to take the characters.

What made this pair so hard to watch was the simple fact that up until the point Joey and Rachel became involved, there had never been a single scene that indicated they had any romantic attraction to one another.

2 Best: Runaway Bride

When Rachel Greene first burst into Central Perk in her expensive wedding dress, she and her friends’ lives were forever changed. This unexpected entrance was one of the most exciting and glamorous character introductions in sitcom history.

Her entrance also provided a lot of details about Rachel’s backstory and even helped to characterize Monica and Ross, who would soon become the two most important people in her life. Without Rachel and without her decision to run away from her wedding, Friends would have never been the huge success it is today.

1 Worst: She Considers Moving Emma To Paris Without Telling Ross

Just as unexpectedly as Rachel stumbled into the friends’ lives she almost stumbled right out. After ten years of living in the village, Rachel was going to take a last minute job offer in Paris and leave everyone behind.

The worst part about that decision was that she would be separating her young child Emma from her father Ross. This was a very selfish decision that was based on Rachel’s best interests. She should have been thinking about what was best for her daughter and simply respecting the fact that Ross had a right to be part of making a decision about Emma’s future.
