Friends Supporting Characters Ranked By Their Likability

When fans think about TV’s hit show, Friends, they instantly think of the core six characters who helped make the show such a major success. However, without the amazing supporting cast the show had, there is no way that it would have become as popular as it ended up being.

Whether it was a love interest, a family member, or a work colleague, Friends had some amazing supporting characters, all who brought something unique to the show. They provided humor, sincerity, and emotion, helping to build the series up. But which of the Friends supporting cast members were the most likable throughout the series?

10 Judy Geller

The mother of Monica and Ross is one of the main supporting characters in Friends who pops up on a frequent basis throughout the series, however, she’s not a very likable person. While Judy can be kind and caring at points, she is also incredibly blunt and rude.

The way she treats Monica throughout the show, despite the fact she’s arguably the perfect daughter who always tries to please her, is despicable. While it might provide a lot of comedic moments, it doesn’t make her a nice character.

9 Ursula

Ursula might be the identical twin sister of Phoebe, but her behavior is anything but the same. The two sisters couldn’t be any more different if they tried, with Ursula putting zero effort into her family and being incredibly rude whenever she is shown.

Ursula just isn’t a nice person, and the only reason she’s more likable than Judy is there are a few times she can be funny, plus she doesn’t feature on the show anywhere near as often, so her flaws aren’t as exposed.

8 Susan

Susan is put in quite a difficult spot on the show because of how she fits into the puzzle. Being Carol’s partner and the person she leaves Ross for instantly means she is shown in a negative light, especially with how those two behave around each other.

Susan is very cold towards Ross and doesn’t show him much respect, despite the fact he is Ben’s father. While she does have her sweeter moments and she can be very funny, there’s no doubt she’s not quite as likable as other characters.

7 Janice

Janice is certainly one of the most annoying characters on Friends, and while that is the whole point, that doesn’t make her likable. Audiences cringe whenever she is around, as they know something frustrating is going to happen.

Janice has zero filters and happily just says whatever is on her mind, no matter how inappropriate it is. While she doesn’t actually treat the men she dates unfairly (that’s the other way around), just her general over the top attitude and laugh make her unlikable.

6 Gunther

Gunther is both loveable and a little creepy at the same time. He’s someone who is obviously extremely hard working and keeps Central Perk afloat with his efforts. He gives jobs to those in need and always seems to be kind enough when his personality is showcased.

However, at the same time, his obsession with Rachel is a little strange, considering the fact he doesn’t really know her that well outside of brief interactions. His social awkwardness also doesn’t help in that regard, as he never plucks up the courage to really make a go of things.

5 Marcel

Marcel may be a monkey, but he’s certainly one of the most well-liked supporting characters. He really makes a huge impact during his time on the show, and while he obviously doesn’t talk, his cheeky personality shines through by his behavior.

His storyline with Ross is a genuine, sweet one, and it creates some really fun and emotional moments from the series. He’s totally different from anything else on the series and that really helps Marcel stand out.

4 Carol

Carol is heavily involved in the series from early on, and despite the fact she leaves Ross, she is a likable person. She clearly still cares deeply about Ross and doesn’t want to upset him, but she just has to follow her heart and what she really wants from life.

Carol doesn’t stand for Ross’ erratic behavior like Susan, but because she knows him better, she is able to deal with it in a much better manner. She’s calm and still able to have some fun throughout her appearances.

3 Erica

Erica is an incredibly sweet and kind character who many fans actually wished could have been involved in the series longer than she was. She’s the one who is kind enough to allow Chandler and Monica to have her babies, and that kind gesture instantly made her very likable.

There’s no doubt that things weren’t easy for Erica and she certainly had some tough decisions and moments of doubt, especially towards Monica. However, her kindness shone through brighter than anything.

2 Alice & Frank Jr.

Frank Jr. and Alice really do come as a package deal, and when they’re together, they are a ton of fun. And while they can be a little ditzy (Frank especially), they are warm and good-hearted people.

Alice is very similar to Erica in many ways in the fact she’s just a very kind character. While her relationship with Frank Jr. is one that does raise some eyebrows, there’s no doubt that they love each other and her fun, carefree attitude quickly made her a hit on the show.

1 Jack Geller

Jack Geller is certainly the most likable supporting character on the show, as he is someone who is consistently nice to everybody. While he might be a little gormless and he makes a few poor judgemental decisions, he is incredibly sweet and kind-natured.

His heart is always in the right place and Jack clearly loves Monica and Ross dearly. He’s also very likable simply because he’s so funny. Jack is always great in group situations, and even if he doesn’t do it on purpose, there’s fun to be had when he’s around.
