Friends is arguably one of the most popular shows in contemporary television. Premiering in 1994, Monica, Rachel, Phoebe, Ross, Chandler, and Joey, gave fans countless funny and heart-warming moments for ten seasons. Its last episode, “The Last One,” was the fifth most-watched series finale in the U.S with 52.5 million viewers. Who can forget Chandler and Joey breaking the iconic foosball table, Phoebe saying there’s something wrong with the “left phalange,” and Ross waiting by the answering machine when Rachel arrives and says, “I got off the plane.”

When Netflix began streaming the show, Friends got a whole new audience with different ideas of what the best moments and characters are. But, if there’s one thing fans can agree on, there are some memorable episodes that stand out, and Ranker shows the ultimate results.

10 The One Where Ross Got High

This episode from Season 6 was one of Friends’ classic Thanksgiving episodes. When Jack and Judy Geller join them for the celebration, Monica tells Chandler she still hasn’t told them about their relationship. The secrets and lies continue when Ross admits that his parents have never really liked Chandler. This, of course, makes Chandler overcompensate in hilarious ways while Rachel is trying to make an “English” trifle with beef. The episode also offers some top-notch comedy from Joey disgustingly eating the trifle and Ross exclaiming, “It tastes like feet.”

9 The One With The Jellyfish

Season 4 was filled with Ross and Rachel drama. In the first episode of the season, Ross’s new girlfriend Bonnie gets on Rachel’s bad side, and Phoebe meets her real biological mother. As intense as these storylines are, Monica, Joey, and Chandler take the cake for most entertaining when a jellyfish stings Monica, putting Joey and Chandler in an uncomfortable situation. The beauty of this episode is when Joey proclaims, “If I had to, I’d pee on any one of you.”

In the end, it is revealed that Chandler was the one to help relieve Monica’s pain, and it goes to show how deep their friendship has gotten. The cherry on top is Rachel’s letter to Ross with “18 pages, front and back.”

8 The One With All The Kissing

Season 5 was great for many reasons. For example, Ross’s many attempts to recover from the “I take thee, Rachel” fiasco with his new wife, Emily. But, one of the main ones is Monica and Chandler’s secret relationship and the scenarios that the couple got themselves into, like Monica having to hide underwater in a tub so Joey wouldn’t find her.

This episode took it even further and saw Chandler accidentally kissing Monica in public. Because of this, he resorts to kissing Rachel and Phoebe as well, to both their dismay and confusion. Monica excused his behavior, saying it’s a “European thing” he picked up, and here, viewers get a classic Phoebe joke when she answers, “It felt French.”

7 The One With The Football

This episode is another Thanksgiving gem and probably one of the show’s most iconic holiday episodes. Here audiences get that first-rate sibling rivalry between Monica and Ross while on a game of football. Joey and Chandler work hard to impress a model watching the game, and Rachel brings the humor with her weak sports skills. With the song “Let’s Get Ready To Rumble” accompanying the characters, the actor’s physical comedy shines through, giving fans memorable moments like Chandler tackling Joey, Ross pulling Monica’s pants down, and Rachel finally catching the ball. In the end, Monica and Ross are the last ones left on the field, proving once again that Gellers don’t quit.

6 The One With Ross’s Sandwich

Another great episode from Season 5 follows a reluctant Joey hiding Monica and Chandler’s relationship from the rest of the group. This leads to many embarrassing scenes and conversations. From him shaving part of his leg, blaming himself for the white underwear in Monica’s kitchen, and even having to admit that he’s disgusting for taking naked pictures of Monica. Thankfully for him, he turns it around, blaming Monica, which doesn’t help with Ross’s rage. And that is the best aspect of this episode: Ross’s rage when someone at work eats his beloved turkey sandwich. The ramifications of his actions even affect future stories, making this instance even more hysterical.

5 The One With The Prom Video

“See, he’s her lobster.” Episode 14 of Season 2 coined one of the most emblematic one-liners of the show and finally saw Ross and Rachel forgetting about Julie, the pros and cons list, and getting together. What motivated Rachel was watching an old home video of her and Monica going to prom. This was the first of many flashback episodes audiences got throughout the series and allowed Rachel to see how much Ross actually cares for her.

It is important to note that this episode also has some questionable decisions regarding Monica’s weight, which is treated as the punchline of the joke. Having said that, the narrative also pushed Ross and Rachel forward, which led to one of the most talked-about romances of its time.

4 The One In Vegas: Part 2

This episode is chaos at its finest. To start things off, Monica and Chandler are unwillingly deciding if they should get married via a game of dice. Joey is looking for his hand twin, and Phoebe gets kicked out of the casino, only to return as her famous alter-ego Regina Phalange.

Simultaneously, Ross and Rachel are in a hotel room, getting drunker and drunker by the minute. After painting all over each other’s faces, they decide to go out and get married. When Monica and Chandler arrive at the same chapel, they see the newlyweds happily celebrating their impromptu wedding. By the next day, Ross and Rachel have no recollection of the events, and that’s how the legend of Ross, “the divorce guy,” came to life.

3 The One Where No One’s Ready

This episode from Season 2 follows the characters refusing to get ready for an event at Ross’s museum. It takes place almost entirely in Monica’s living room, an attempt from the creators to save a little money. Ironically, this ended up being a very successful episode in which dialogue became more important than ever.

Monica is reeling over an old voicemail left by Richard, Phoebe’s dress gets ruined, and Rachel can’t decide the appropriate outfit for a “paleontologist’s girlfriend.” Joey and Chandler keep on fighting over who gets to sit on the main couch, which somehow leads to Joey wearing all of Chandler’s clothes. This moment is so memorable that Matt Leblanc even recreated the look at the recent HBO Max special reunion.

2 The One With The Embryos

What is Chandler Bing’s job? “He’s a transponster.” At least, according to Rachel. This episode from Season 4 is dynamic, fun and gives audiences a chance to know the characters a little better. From Joey’s imaginary childhood friend Maurice to Rachel’s actual favorite movie “Weekend at Bernie’s,” the characters went head to head in a game of “Who knows the other one better?” Unfortunately for Monica and Rachel, Chandler and Joey won the game and their apartment. Meanwhile, Phoebe gets ready to be the surrogate of her brother’s babies, making this one of the most impactful storylines in Phoebe’s arch.

1 The One Where Everybody Finds out

When Ugly Naked Guy moves out of his apartment, Rachel, Phoebe, and Ross decide to check it out. It just so happens that this apartment overlooks Monica’s, prompting another one of Phoebe Buffay’s greatest one-liners “My eyes! My eyes!” Lisa Kudrow’s delivery and comic timing are on point. The episode also sees Phoebe trying to seduce Chandler in a ruse to admit his secret relationship.

The minute Ross sees Chandler kissing Monica, he immediately freaks out, just to realize that his best friend and his sister dating is actually not so bad. His reaction is very sweet and quite a wholesome moment for the entire group.
