Friends The 10 Best Moments From The Reunion

Finally, after 17 years, fans have gotten everything they wanted ever since the show ended all the way back in 2004. There aren’t many huge, shocking reveals in the Friends reunion; it’s fairly predictable, but in the best way possible, as it’s full of nostalgic trips down memory lane and bloopers of the fans’ favorite scenes.

Though it skipped a lot of moments that aren’t talked about enough, the reunion was hugely satisfying. Whether it was all of the guest appearances, the behind-the-scenes footage, or the interviews with the cast and creators, there were so many juicy moments stuffed into the two-hour special.

10 That Door Transition

The very opening of the reunion is the final scene of the Friends finale from all the way back in 2004. And the final shot is a pan over to the iconic purple door in Monica’s apartment, but it doesn’t end there.

The pan continues on to the soundstage to show David Schwimmer as he looks today walking on to the set. It was edited seamlessly as if it happened at the same time, and it was the classiest way to open the reunion.

9 The New Intro

There are so many nostalgic moments of the reunion, whether it’s all of the guest features (from the recurring characters) or revisiting iconic outfits. However, the most iconic of all is the opening sequence and theme tune.

The whole cast dancing around in a fountain, intercut with shots from the series, is one of the most joyous sitcom intros ever, and it was re-edited for the reunion. While the new intro is intercut with shots of them from today, many fans thought it was a bit of a missed opportunity to not have them dancing in the fountain all over again.

8 Seeing The Set For The First Time

Right after the door transition at the beginning of the special, the main cast of Friends walk on to the set one by one, freely walking around, reminiscing at their leisure. The first to enter is Schwimmer, who gets some time to himself, then Lisa Kudrow, and so on and so forth.

Once they all arrive, they all get into their little groups, with Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry excitedly rushing to the chairs in Chandler and Joey’s apartment, and Aniston and Schwimmer wander around Central Perk. It was also fascinating to see the layout of the stage, as all the major locations were laid out in a straight line.

7 Matt LeBlanc Grinning The Whole Way Through

Though it has been 17 years since the show ended and they have only been on screen together once in the time since, it almost seemed as if the cast of Friends weren’t as close as they once were. But when they were finally together, they seemed to be genuinely enjoying each other’s company.

However, there’s one actor who was clearly excited for it more than anyone else, as Matt LeBlanc was grinning the whole way through. He discussed Ross’ leather pants with such glee, and whenever he complimented Schwimmer or Matthew Perry, it seemed so sincere and from the heart.

6 The Table Readings

The scene between Aniston and Schwimmer reading the scene where Ross and Rachel share their first kiss was a beautiful moment, especially given the new information that there was a real off-screen romance between them.

But it was again Matt LeBlanc who stole the show in these moments, as he excitedly rereads the scene from when Monica got stung by a jellyfish. The whole cast laugh hysterically when he exclaims, “and I was tired from digging that huge hole!”

5 The Game Show

Another incredibly nostalgic moment comes when they all sit on Monica’s couch and replay the game from “The One with the Embryos,” which saw Joey and Chandler win Monica’s apartment. Considering that they all mentioned that they hadn’t seen much of the show ever since it ended in 2004, they all did pretty well.

There was even a fun appearance from Mr. Heckles. However, it’s just as well that Schwimmer hosted the game show, as he wouldn’t have done very well as a competitor given that he doesn’t have any recollection of “The One with the Ball,” one of the most memorable episodes in the show’s history.

4 The Smelly Cat Duet

It wouldn’t have been a reunion without another rendition of one of the most famous songs of all time, “Smelly Cat.”

Lisa Kudrow began singing solo with Phoebe’s old guitar strapped over her shoulder for just a few seconds before a surprise guest walked through the door of Central Perk. It was none other than Lady Gaga, and it ended up being the best celebrity cameo of the whole two-hour special. Though it isn’t clear whether or not Kudrow agrees.

3 The Fashion Show

This was where fans were treated to more surprise guests from outside of the show, and they were just as enthusiastic to be there as the cast. Though Ross was a pathological liar, he did have some fantastic outfits, as Cara Delevingne rocked the Holiday Armadillo outfit, and Justin Bieber dressed as Ross’ Halloween potato outfit.

And, of course, just as he had been soaking up the energy throughout the entire show, LeBlanc was the last one to walk down the runway, and he was dressed in all of Chandler’s clothes.

2 The Archive Footage From After The Finale

There were so many flashback scenes in the reunion and behind the scenes footage that have never been seen before, but none of them made fans cry more than what happened after the director yelled cut at the end of the finale.

After the final scene, the camera kept rolling, and it showed all of the cast hugging each other for minutes on end. Not much else happened in the clip, but it’s something that spoke to fans more than anything else.

1 The Real Chemistry Between Jennifer Aniston And David Schwimmer

Ross and Rachel weren’t just the most relatable couple on-screen, but the real-life counterparts almost dated as well. In what was one of the most shocking reveals, Aniston and Schwimmer talk about how close they were in the early years of the show, and behind-the-scenes footage proves exactly that. And again, one more time, LeBlanc strikes again, as he yells “bulls***” after Aniston and Schwimmer said that they didn’t cross any lines.
