The Frozen franchise has a lot of adorable characters we just can’t get enough of. But it has its fair share of villains too. Some are real, some are created by Elsa, and some come straight from the past. But which one is the most and which is the least likable character in the movies?
Do you like them funny? Or smart? Or both? Ranked by least to most likable, here are 10 major Frozen characters that met and changed the Arendelle kingdom’s history.
10 Prince Hans
To open our list, Prince Hans of the Southern Isles, aka Anna’s fiancee, for a brief second. Hans starts the movie as this charming prince who’s come to save Anna not only from falling onto the river but also from her so-far dull life. And for the majority of the movie, he still pretends to be a nice guy.
It’s only when Anna is weak and needs a kiss from her true love that Hans reveals his real character – and plan. No wonder Elsa doesn’t even want to see him on ice. What makes Hans the worst villain in the whole franchise is his lack of honesty. Who doesn’t hate a double-faced royal?
9 Duke of Weselton
Following Prince Hans close is the Duke of Weselton, or should we say Weasel Town? The funny-looking, toupee-wearing snob makes his intentions clear from the beginning to find Arendelle’s secrets and get an upper-hand in the trade business. But it’s not only the Duke’s bad plan that makes him hateful.
When Elsa’s powers are revealed, the Duke is the first to point the finger and accuse Elsa of being a monster. He later encourages the kingdom to rebel against their Queen and sends two men to kill Elsa. As if this wasn’t enough, the Duke has the worst dancing moves in all the kingdoms. A well-deserved second-least likable place.
8 King Runeard
If Prince Hans and the Duke weren’t so bad, maybe Anna and Elsa’s grandfather, King Runeard, would deserve a worse place in this list. Not only did he betray the trust of the Northudlra people, lied to his own men, and put his son’s, and all his men in danger, but he also cursed the forest, causing the battle never to end and the Northuldra people to never see life without fog.
And all because he was too afraid of something he couldn’t understand: magic. Thankfully he wasn’t alive when Elsa was born, or he would have a hard time accepting his first granddaughter.
7 Lieutenant Mattias
Lieutenant Mattias is one of the many pleasant surprises in Frozen 2. The charming army man is one of the people stuck forever in the battle between Arendelle and the Northuldra people, but even though 35 years have passed, he never forgot his true love for Halima. Lieutenant Mattias wins our hearts when he listens carefully to Olaf’s retelling of Anna and Elsa’s story, reacting with so much heart we want to hug him.
After that, the Lieutenant again wins over our hearts when he proves his loyalty to the Arendelle people by helping Anna destroy the den – and saving her in the process.
6 Grand Pabbie
What’s not to love about this cute stone troll who collects green crystals and knows everything? Grand Pabbie is the leader of the trolls and a great asset to Arendelle, with all his ancient knowledge of magic and the ways of nature.
He not only saves Anna when Elsa accidentally freezes her for the first time, but he also warns them about the extent of Elsa’s powers and helps Anna save herself at the end of the first movie. If it wasn’t for Grand Pabbie, Elsa would not have Anna help her out of her shell.
5 Sven
Sven is everyone’s favorite reindeer. And some fans might even call him the favorite sidekick. Controversy apart, Sven is Kristoff’s best friend. They’ve been together since they were but babies struggling to harvest one ice-block.
Together, these two have been through a lot, and Sven has never hesitated to do his best to help Kristoff, Anna, Olaf, and Elsa. He’s there for the happy, the sad, and the singing moments. He also serves on multiple occasions as the voice of reason for Kristoff, so it’s fair enough he is on our top 5.
4 Kristoff
Kristoff might be the best Disney prince yet. He’s hard-working, down-to-earth, romantic, loyal, funny, and, on top of it all, super charming. Kristoff doesn’t believe his role is to save Anna; he’s there to be her equal companion.
He understands her responsibilities and knows himself and his love enough not to feel threatened by Anna’s obligations. Kristoff is sensitive and not afraid of how that might affect his masculinity, which makes him the best partner for Anna, and the fourth most likable character in Frozen.
3 Olaf
Our number three is the adorable and clueless snowman, Olaf. Yes, he talks too much. But he is the heart of the group and brings them all a little bit of warmth in the cold Arendelle.
Olaf is a product of Elsa and Anna’s imagination, which might explain why he is such a nice creature. Frozen would not be the same without him and his funny remarks, and that’s why he stands behind only the two princesses.
2 Elsa
Once you get to know Elsa, it’s impossible not to like her. Everything this young woman goes through and the responsibility she carries from a young age are enough reasons to be afraid to open up. Yet, she never hesitates when it comes to saving her sister or her kingdom.
Elsa’s journey of self-discovery is a delight to follow, and her resilience is a life lesson. Elsa is the best person to have by your side and not an easy enemy to overcome. Sometimes she makes mistakes, but it’s just because she wants what’s best for Anna and Arendelle. The second most-likable character is a great place for Elsa to be.
1 Most Likable: Anna
There’s no surprise that Anna is the most likable character in the Frozen franchise. She’s strong, courageous, outspoken, funny, and very, very real. She snores when she sleeps, she’s an ugly crier, she’s clumsy. She sets no unrealistic expectations for young girls across the globe.
Anna might not have Elsa’s innate responsibility, but she didn’t have an easy life either. Yet, she never gave up on her sister and the hope of a better life. Her optimism is contagious, and her loyalty commendable. And the fact that the hilarious Kristen Bell voices her is definitely a plus.
