Future State Aquamans Daughter Takes Her Place in DCs Justice League

The drastic changes that are coming to ravage the DC Universe will unfortunately befall a character who has already experienced a great deal of peril despite only being alive for a relatively short period of time. The unwavering jovial spirit of Aquaman’s daughter, Andy Curry, has never been extinguished, regardless of the numerous dangers she faced as an infant. Even when she was kidnapped before her first birthday, Andy giggled and wriggled with joy. Despite her being seemingly immune to fear, she deserves a break. And though it appears as though that deserved break will indeed come, it won’t last very long. During the upcoming months-long event known as Future State, Andy will become a member of the Justice League.

The events of Future State will thrust the new Justice League member and Jackson Hyde – the new Aquaman – into the Confluence, an interdimensional nexus connecting planets and galaxies that manifests in the One Great Ocean. In Aquaman #1, Andy will have already gone missing within the Confluence, and who knows when Jackson will find Andy and bring her back to the Justice League?

Solicitations reported by Comic Book Resources suggest that the aquatic heroes may have been away for a while but that Andy will eventually rejoin the league in Future State: Justice League #1:

Witness the start of a new era for the Justice League starring Jonathan Kent as Superman, Yara Flor as Wonder Woman, Jo Mullein as Green Lantern, Andy Curry as Aquawoman, a new Flash from the Multiverse, and [REDACTED] as Batman! Together, they protect the future, yet apart, their identities are secret even from one another—but why? When their greatest adversaries wind up murdered in an abandoned Hall of Justice, all clues point to…the Justice League! The new team’s adventures begin here!

When she does return, is it possible that Andy’s powers will have already surpassed her father’s even though she’s so young? In current continuity, her only powers as an infant are limited to breathing underwater indefinitely, speaking while submerged and surviving on land for prolonged periods of time without it being detrimental to her health, Andy’s apparent immunity to fear would have undoubtedly been an asset to the Justice League, but her position on the team – as opposed to membership in an age-appropriate group like the Teen Titans – suggests she’s packing some aquatic fire power readers haven’t yet seen firsthand.

Whatever the new Aquawoman’s abilities prove to be, they’ll need to be impressive, since she already has some pretty big aquatic flippers to fill. Aquaman has proven his worth on more than one occasion, especially during the Throne of Atlantis arc and the Justice League story “Drowned Earth” – two occasions that called for the water-based hero to save the entire Earth from destruction. In the meantime, what will the Justice League do without an active member who represents Atlantis and brings highly useful aquatic skills to the table, and how will the new Aquawoman cope when lost in such deep waters?
