Get Organized With The Home Edit Netflixs New Show Debuts

Netflix’s latest home improvement series Get Organized With The Home Edit has finally debuted, giving rise to another organization craze. Spearheaded by founders and best friends Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin, The Home Edit is an organizational company that transforms their client’s spaces from cluttered and overwhelming to refined and user-friendly by combining superior organization with functional interior design. Clea and Joanna started the company in 2015, and have grown exponentially on social media, now clocking in 1.9 million followers on Instagram.

Last year, the pair released a how-to book entitled The Home Edit: A Guide to Organizing and Realizing Your House Goals that landed on The New York Times Best Sellers list. The book’s success solidified the Home Edit method as the latest organizational craze, garnering laymen and celebrity fans alike. Gwyneth Paltrow and Rachel Zoe are just a few of the A-list names that have subscribed to the Home Edit lifestyle. Since their popularity has grown, Clea and Joanna have developed their small-business into a household name with teams across the country and their own homeware line.

On September 9, Clea and Joanna expanded their brand to the world of unscripted TV with the first season of their Netflix series, Get Organized With The Home Edit. The series is executive produced by Reese Witherspoon, a long-time fan of the duo and their client in the premiere episode. Retta from Parks and Recreation, Khloé Kardashian, and Eva Longoria are just a few of the many other celebrities to appear on the show.

Before this Netflix deal, Witherspoon produced Master the Mess, a 2018 DirectTV series with 12 episodes that also featured Clea and Joanna’s organizational superpowers and its own slew of celebrity guests. Their new series, however, will hopefully get more visibility as the latest in Netflix’s epic roll-out of unscripted titles. Home improvement fans can’t help but be reminded of Netflix’s last home improvement sensation, Tidying Up with Marie Kondo, while watching, even though the gurus have vastly different organizational philosophies.

Clea and Joanna’s style is recognized by its color-coded organization, excessive use of acrylic drawers and boxes, and obsession with hand-printed labels. Marie Kondo, however, focuses on removing all excess from one’s life to allow her clients to respect and treasure the items that remain. Kondo’s method took social media by storm as viewers posted photos of the emotionally draining process, but only time will tell if Get Organized With The Home Edit will spur a similar race to organization.
