Her unique sense of humor has seen her appear in many comedies over the past decade, where she starred in both leading and supporting roles as part of an ensemble cast. Starring in so many projects inevitably leads to some success and some failure, with this in mind here are Gillian Jacobs’ 10 best roles.
10 Dean (6.2)
Gillian Jacobs starred as Nicky alongside Demetri Martin in the 2016 indie romantic comedy Dean. The film was also written and directed by Demetri Martin and produced on a tiny budget of under $1 million.
Dean’s world is turned upside down when his mother dies and his father plans to sell their family home, he then meets Nicky and their relationship helps him through his grief. The film’s grief-stricken story is inspired by Martin’s own experience losing his mother and delivers many poignant moments.
9 Life Partners (6.2)
2014’s Life Partners puts female friendships under the microscope in a way rarely seen, as two friends find their friendship is tested after one of them enters into a serious relationship for the first time.
Jacobs co-stars alongside Leighton Meester is the comedy-drama, and despite their wildly different career paths, they have remained friends. Although the film doesn’t reinvent the wheel it provides plenty of laughs and feels honest.

Black or White tells the story of a grieving grandfather who must fight for custody of his granddaughter. The film is inspired by real-life events and stars Kevin Costner in the lead role, who must confront his own expectations and prejudices surrounding race.

Although not the funniest set up for a comedy the film delivers a lot of humor and finds the funny side of the tragedy. Jacobs starred in a supporting role as a waitress at a diner that has transformed into a Woodstock-esque free for all with no rules.
6 Long Live The Royals (6.7)
Cartoon Network produced the limited series Long Live the Royals, which features a fictional British royal family who struggles to maintain their kingdom. Despite its limited run, the series went on to win 2 Primetime Emmys and received positive reviews for its unique stylized animation.
Jacobs provided the voices of Kathrine and Rosalind, and the royal family itself features many other unexpected vocal performances including Kieran Culkin.
5 Don’t Think Twice (6.7)
Jacobs starred alongside a talented cast of comedic performers in 2016’s Don’t Think Twice. The film sees an improv troupe of good friends finally get their big break only to discover that not all of them will make it.

Comedy and drama are hard to balance but Girls managed to receive critical acclaim across its six seasons for its realism and laugh-out-loud moments.
Jacobs featured as Mimi-Rose Howard, an artist across season 4, and entered into a new relationship with Adam, which went through highs and lows. Although only a supporting role Mimi was a fiercely independent artist with a lot of complexity, who left an impression on the show.

Netflix’s Love starred Jacobs as Mickey Dobbs, a recovering alcoholic who begins to date Gus, a nerdy dorky guy who is the opposite of the type of guy she would typically choose.
The show explores the challenges of modern dating in new and unexpected ways, allowing both leads to have complex backstories and sympathetic qualities. The series ran for three seasons and delivered plenty of laughs as well as some uncomfortable fights.
2 The Regular Show (8.4)
The Regular Show’s 8 seasons provided some of the most surreal and hilarious moments of any cartoon in recent memory. The show’s vast 247 episode run saw many famous voices appear on the show, Jacobs featured in several episodes as Blu-ray.
Blu-ray is one of the strangest characters to appear in the series and can store her memories in Blu-ray box sets and is the sister of HD-DVD.
1 Community (8.5)
Jacobs starred as Britta Perry throughout Community’s 6 seasons, as served as one of the core members of the study group. The sitcom showcased the many eccentric characters across the campus and saw the group get involved in unexpected hijinks every week.
Although the series never found mainstream success it 6 seasons feature some of the most creative episodes any sitcom has to offer. Although Britta may have been the butt of the jokes more other than not, she was one of the most complex characters in the series and Jacobs’ best performance.
