From Hanna and Jess to Jenna and Kirk, here are the pairings for Gilmore Girls and Pretty Little Liars characters that could (and could not) work.

Gilmore Girls and Pretty Little Liars had very different tones, since Lorelai and Rory Gilmore’s lives centered around school, work, relationships, and their quirky yet charming town, and the Liars were busy dealing with an anonymous and ominous threat called A. Still, the shows both featured loving friends, the same cute set and some fan-favorite couples.

These main characters all had their end games, as many of them wound up married and even having kids with certain significant others. Imagine if things were different, though: What if these worlds collided? Here are five couples from Gilmore Girls and PLL that could work and five that would be a disaster.

10 Could Work: Hanna & Jess

Hanna Marin obviously had a thing for bad boys, as she was attracted to Caleb Rivers and ended up wed to him. Therefore, she could have hit it off with Jess Marin. He also showed up in town with his too-cool-for-school vibe, but he was actually a total sweetheart and quite smart, just like Caleb.

Jess probably wouldn’t be able to discuss literature with Han, like he could with Rory, but he would appreciate her hilarious one-liners and her go-getter attitude.

9 A Disaster: Spencer & Dean

Spencer, a brainy brunette, fell for a tall, nice guy who was good with his hands, as did Rory, but Spenc and Toby’s happy ending was not shown, and Rory and Dean went their separate ways. So while, on paper, Spencer Hastings and Dean Forester look really good, this probably would be a disaster.

Dean seemed fine with staying in his hometown and settling down, while, as a Hastings, Spencer needed to go off, explore, learn and do incredible things.

8 Could Work: Rory & Ezra

Another couple that would be interesting to have seen was Rory Gilmore and Ezra Fitz. First of all, they would have been gorgeous together, and they would have been able to spend all their time reading and writing together.

They have similar personalities, making it easy to picture them watching classic movies at home, enjoying quaint functions around town, and traveling together to soak up even more culture and knowledge.

7 A Disaster: Lorelai & Jason

Lorelai Gilmore kissed a lot of frogs before finally settling down with her one true love, and if she lived in Rosewood, she may have started up a fling with Jason DiLaurentis. He was attractive and pretty mature, and he did mess around with Ashley Marin, another beautiful woman who was a bit older than him.

This could have been fun for a while, but Jason may have not wanted to be a stepdad, and Lorelai was a strong and successful character who was meant to be with Luke.

6 Could Work: Aria & Logan

Just as Rory and Ezra could be pictured together, so could Aria Montgomery and Logan Huntzberger. They were both smart, with an interest in and an appreciation for some of the finer things in life, but they could both let loose and have a good time, as well.

Aria would have loved to go on Life and Death Brigade adventures with Logan, seeing new places and getting new inspirations.

5 A Disaster: Caleb & Paris

Two characters who never would have ended up together, if these universes mixed, would be Caleb Rivers and Paris Geller. As fans know, she was wound pretty tight, with high expectations for herself and others. When he really needed to, Caleb could buckle down, get serious, and put in the effort needed to, say, save his friends from A. But he would have gotten really tired of Paris’ micromanaging and type-A behavior.

He also would have probably tried to stand up to her and shut her down, which would not have gone over well for the guy.

4 Could Work: Chris & Ashley

The parents of these shows would deserve some intriguing couplings, too, so Chris Hayden and Ashley Marin are next on the list. Based on Lorelai’s and Sherry’s physical traits, Ashley seemed like Chris’ type. And based on Ashley’s fling with Jason and her daughter’s relationship with Caleb, she can be imagined going for the bad boy.

Of course, as the story progressed, Chris matured, and both of these parents were hardworking and caring. It could have been cool to see them excelling together, personally and professionally.

3 A Disaster: Luke & Mary

For those who didn’t know Mary Drake’s involvement in the A-game, she seemed like an attractive and a normal woman, coming into town to run a business. And since Luke Danes also ran a popular establishment (and liked women with long brown hair and blue eyes), he could have shown some interest in her.

Luke did not like drama, though, and that was an understatement for all that Mary had going on in her life.

2 Could Work: Toby & Lane

Another couple idea from these television series would be Toby Cavanaugh and Lane Kim. Toby and Zack share some physical characteristics, and both Toby and Lane stayed in their hometowns.

These were also two of the sweetest and most genuine characters on their respective shows, so together, they could have been even better.

1 A Disaster: Jenna & Kirk

One more set of characters who would have needed to avoid one another would be Jenna Cavanaugh and Kirk Gleason. Kirk was a one-of-a-kind guy who needed to end up with someone like Lulu, and he was beyond lucky to have her.

Someone like Jenna—someone with baggage and vengeance and secrets—would have eaten him alive.
