William McKinley High School guidance counselor Emma Pillsbury Schuester established herself as a fan-favorite character on the FOX comedy-musical Glee from the moment she appeared in the pilot episode. Emma won the hearts of viewers for always being in a jovial mood and for her determination to find love.
After various setbacks, including getting dumped on her wedding day, Emma settled down with Spanish teacher Will Schuester. The character has been praised for shedding light on conditions such as OCD and for being highly principled since she took her time before deciding to break her virginity. Here are a few more things audiences didn’t know about her
10 What Caused Her OCD?
There is in conflicting information in the show about this. In the second episode of Season 1 titled “Showmance,” she states that all the blame lies on her mysterious brother. Apparently, the condition was triggered when her brother pushed her towards a run-off lagoon.
However, in Season 3’s third episode titled “Asian F,” she states that the condition came about from her parents constantly forcing her to clean glasses and cups before using them. It’s thus unclear which of the two accounts is actually true.
9 Her Age
In the seventeenth episode of Season 2 titled “A Night Of Neglect,” Emma mentions that she is 32. Since that specific episode aired on on April 19th, 2011. So, by the time the show ended in 2015, she must have been 36.
In Season 4, it is also mentioned that Emma was born in late October 1979. This still places her age correctly at 36 years old by the time the show ends. As for of today, Emma would be 41 years old. Hopefully, a spin off might be grin lit so that viewers can see how life in her 40s is.
8 Most Engagements
Emma has had the most engagements out of all characters on the show. She first gets engaged to Ken. the former coach of the McKinley Titans. She does this because she was tired of chasing Will, who is married at the time. However, she still loves Will so she eventually breaks up with Ken and gets engaged to the Spanish teacher.
She also gets engaged to her dentist Carl at some point. The two get married in Las Vegas but their marriage breaks down to the lack of a sex life. Emma is still attracted to Will so she finds it hard to sleep with Carl Frustrated, Carl leaves her. Despite being engaged to a number of men, Emma’s true love is Will and that’s the man she eventually settles down with.
7 Her Height
Emma Pillsbury is one of the shortest characters on the show. She is approximately 5’4 in height. This can be concluded from the fact that Jayma Mays, the actress who portrays her is 5’4 too.
Jayma was part of the main cast from Season 1 to Season 3 before switching to the supporting cast for Season 4, 5 and 6. Still, she is one of the few actors that were lucky enough to appear in every season of the show.
6 Career Goals
Emma might be happy as the guidance counselor at William McKinley High School but that’s not what she wanted to be when she was a little girl. In fact, she had her eyes on being a very successful dairy farmer.
Interestingly, she no longer takes dairy products. No health reason has been given for this. It might be due to the unfortunate events that happened at the farm when she was young. These events might have led her to forego a career in farming as well as the consuming of dairy products.
5 She Loves The Local News
In the fourth episode of Season 1 titled “Preggers,” Emma describes herself as a local news junkie. She states that she always keeps up with what’s happening around Ohio and even knows all the local news anchors by name.
This confession is made when Will enters the staff room and begins having a chat with Emma and Ken. Emma states that she watched a news segment in which Sue ranted about corporal punishment. The two then begin discussing the topic before Sue eventually enters the room.
4 Sue Never Calls Her By Her Actual Name
Sue Sylvester never seems to get Emma’s name right. She has been heard referring to her as Ellen, Edie, Eleanor, Amelia, Arlene, Alma, Deena, Edna, Elmo, Esme, Irma and Ella.
Whether Sue does this deliberately is up in the air. She was intelligent enough to rise and become Vice President of the United States so there is no way she can fail to recall Emma’s name. Since the two feud sometimes, it can be argued that Sue calls Emma by strange names deliberately.
3 Will’s Nickname For Her
While Sue calls her all sorts of names she doesn’t like, Will has more affectionate terms for her. He has occasionally referred to her as “The Sassy Girl.” Emma loves this nickname and she’s even been seen blushing when Will uses it.
Sadly, Will is quite economical with the name. It would have been fun to see Emma blushing all the time. Will has also been heard referring to her as “Honey,” “Sleepyhead,” and “The Woman Who Boys Hand Sanitizer.”
2 Her Family
It’s known that Will is Emma’s husband, Grace is her daughter and David is her son. But what are her other family members? Well, her siblings are never revealed throughout the show’s run. Her mysterious brother is only mentioned as being responsible for her OCD.
But her father is called Rusty Pillsbury while her mother is Rose Pillsbury. Her father-in-law and mother-in-law are simply referred to as Mr. Schuester and Mrs. Schuester.
1 How Many Songs Has She Sung?
Emma has sung a total of 12 songs. Four of them have been solo songs, namely: “All By Myself” in the Season One episode titled “Showmance” and “I Could Have Danced All Night” in the Season 2 episode titled “Mash Up.”
She also performed “Touch a Touch a Touch a Touch Me” in Season 3’s “Rocky Horror Glee Show” and “Wedding Bells” in Season 3’s “Yes/No.” During her time on the show, Emma has proven to be one of the most passionate and consistent singers.
