God Of War 10 Side Quests You Can Skip

God of War is one of the biggest gaming franchises in the world. Primarily set in ancient Greece, Kratos fought his way through the Greek pantheon and more to find revenge and hopefully peace. The most recent game saw that peace disturbed in Scandinavia.

While the gameplay is usually wrapped around fantastic stories, that doesn’t mean everything is pure gold. There are a lot of side quests in the most recent God of War game, but some of them are better than others. You can often collect interesting items or upgrades from them, but that doesn’t mean they’re worth doing. There are more than a few side quests that players should pass on.

10 The Petty Vengeance Of Hammer Fall

Some side quests aren’t necessarily difficult. Sometimes, they’re just long. Hammer Fall centers around a spirit who hates Thor for killing his father and can’t move on to the afterlife until a statue his mother built of the Thunder God is destroyed.

While this side quest isn’t the worst, there’s a lot of rowing and climbing for Kratos involved in it. Plus, the endgame is wrecking a statue, which is pretty straightforward, but a little anticlimactic.

9 Play Ghostbuster In Dead Fright

There’s nothing worse than a side quest that sends Kratos wandering around the game too much, and Dead Fright comes perilously close to doing just that. Yet another ghost pops up, this time asking you to defeat three other ghosts so they can move on.

Beating up ghosts comes up frequently in this game, which isn’t always a bad thing. But in this case, the player spends a lot of time tracking down these three specific lost souls to help them find closure, and Kratos is a terrible therapist.

8 Everyone In This Game Has Unfinished Business

Once again, it’s time to help some ghosts deal with whatever nonsense is tying them to the mortal world in Unfinished Business. Apparently, no one in this game was in a good place when they passed away and they need help making the leap to the next stage.

This side quest pops up after meeting the epic World Serpent for the first time. While there are some incredibly mediocre rewards for completing the quest, the main point seems to be just getting the player used to the new area.

7 Take Exploring Caves To New Depths In Deus Ex Malachite

Deus Ex Malachite is a second-level quest that becomes available after the player has completed another side quest called Second Hand Soul. This one is given to Kratos by his old friend Brok, who is concerned about another dwarf.

This is a long quest, the point of which is essentially getting Brok a hammer that he really wants. It’s not exactly the most epic goal of all time, but at least there are a ludicrous number of threats along the way and too much time in caves.

6 Second Hand Soul Offers Even More Cave Time

Speaking of Second Hand Soul, this side quest has to be given credit for having some decent rewards at a relatively early point in the game. That being said, it’s hard to say if said rewards are worth actually going through the quest itself.

Once again, it’s Brok giving Kratos the quest to go on in the first place. And like the side quest that follows it, Second Hand Soul involves a lot of descending into caves, specifically the Volunder Mines. Anyone with claustrophobia issues should consider skipping this one.

5 The Anatomy Of Hope? More Like The Anatomy Of Boredom

Once again, The Anatomy of Hope drags the player into more nonsense surrounding a ghost having problems moving on into the afterlife. At first, this seems like a quest to reunite two dead lovers. Instead, it’s some sort of trap that leads to Kratos and Atreus getting jumped.

There’s almost no reason to bother with this side quest at all. The story isn’t worth telling and the rewards don’t make up for it. Only someone obsessed with completing literally every aspect of a game would need to do this one.

4 The Lie Of Fafnir’s Hoard

During the course of the game, Kratos somewhat befriends a dwarf named Sindri. To be fair, this is about as close as Kratos gets to having friends. As Ron Swanson would say, they are more like workplace proximity associates.

Regardless, Sindri makes the Fafnir’s Hoard side quest sound really important before convincing the player to accept. It isn’t. But it is long, boring and basically just set up for something else down the road.

3 Hail To The King, Baby

No, this quest does not feature an anachronistic cameo from everyone’s favorite Deadite slayer, Ash Williams. But that happening would have made Hail to the King a lot more interesting and actually worth doing.

This quest is a lot of wandering around a really big space looking for materials to craft something that isn’t even necessary. Plus, all the enemies in this area are completely basic and just add to the tedium.

2 Family Business Is Bad Business

God Of War 10 Side Quests You Can Skip

Family Business is the follow up to Fafnir’s Hoard, the second of the quests in which Sindri asks Kratos to find some whetstone he’s obsessed with. Keeping in mind how poorly the first search went, Sindri should be shocked that anyone agrees to go, again.

This quest takes a long time, is unnecessarily difficult and does not offer any substantive rewards. On top of that, the game pulls out the old “the princess is in another castle” move, as Kratos still doesn’t find the whetstone.

1 Realm Of Fog Delivers On Its Promise

If anyone playing this game was hoping to spend a bunch of time wandering around an area they can barely see in, then Realm of Fog is the side quest to go with. Until players have Mist Armor, being in Niflheim is straight-up terrible.

All this quest is good for is grinding through endless enemies while the fog drains the energy from Kratos. It’s long, infuriating and borderline pointless – just don’t do it.
