The story of the God Of War series is usually a dark one, filled to the brim with brutal violence, long-reaching acts of vengeance, and the consequences thereof, but one publishing house has turned Kratos’s latest adventure into a family-friendly storybook. The 2018 God Of War game for the PlayStation 4 served as a reboot to the long-running franchise, taking the former Ghost Of Sparta to the Nine Realms of Norse Mythology and introducing his young son Atreus.

In this newest installment of the long-running God Of War franchise, Kratos has noticeably mellowed out from his previous acts of rage and screaming fury, trying instead to be a better father for his young son as the pair journey to fulfill the dying wish of Atreus’s mother by spreading her ashes across the highest peak in Jötunheim. However, the slayer of the Gods remains a violent figure, even if he’s cut back on the number of deities and divine creatures whose blood he spills across the snowy landscapes regularly. This hasn’t stopped some fans from imagining his various misadventures in parenting, or authors from imagining his journey as a fun bedtime story.

Such is the case with licensed publisher Insight Editions, who have just announced on their via tweet that their children’s storybook based on the 2018 God Of War game is now available to preorder earlier today, written by author Andrea Robinson and illustrated by Romina Tempest. Titled God of War: B Is For Boy, the book follows Kratos as he “teaches his son Atreus the ABC’s of the nine realms,” complete with such humorous quotes like “N is for No,” and “Q is for Quiet,” which are both things the grouchy demigod has told Atreus during their travels. Since its release two years ago, God Of War has been given high praise for its revamped gameplay, impressive one-shot camera presentation, and its deep, emotional story of a father and son looking to reach an understanding with each other. The game won the title of 2018 Game Of The Year from multiple outlets and has even sparked discussions of a movie or Netflix adaptation based on Kratos and Atreus’ journey across the game’s masterfully re-imagined Nine Realms of Asgard.

For all its intense violence and freighting monsters, the 2018 God Of War game does feature many themes that could serve as meaningful life lessons for kids, such as the high price of revenge, the importance of controlling one’s anger, and not letting hubris warp one’s actions. As such, a children’s book based off it wouldn’t be too far-fetched. At the very least, God Of War: B Is For Boy might be a fun way for video game fans to teach their youngsters the alphabet while reliving one of gaming’s most recent and beautiful sagas.
