Stars Michael Sheen and David Tennant returned to reprise their roles from Good Omens for a lockdown special. Good Omens season 1 premiered on Amazon Prime in 2019, bearing six episodes that adapted the Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett story. Despite Good Omens making some significant changes from the book, the series was received well by critics and fans alike. It managed to score an impressive 84 percent critical rating and 91 percent audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, leaving fans clamoring for a second installment of episodes.

Good Omens, which is based on the novel from Gaiman and Pratchett, follows an angel and demon who attempt to stop the end of days, set in motion by Heaven and Hell, involving a child Antichrist and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. The series starred Sheen, Tennant, Frances McDormand, Sam Taylor Buck, Jon Hamm, Jack Whitehall and Benedict Cumberbatch as Satan. Due to its subject matter, Gaiman was aware Good Omens would offend its share of people. Confirming his prediction, 20,000 Christians signed a petition asking for the cancelation of the series. However, the petition incorrectly addressed Netflix, instead of Amazon, much to the amusement of Gaiman.

In a new Good Omens lockdown special, uploaded by co-writer Pratchett, Sheen and Tennant have reprised their roles as Aziraphale and Crowley respectively. In the special, a phone call takes place between the two characters, the angel and demon catching each other up with what they are doing in isolation. The full video is below.

Following the show’s debut, fans have been wondering if there will be a Good Omens season 2. Although the series adapted the entirety of the source material, the Good Omens finale does leave the door open for a season 2. However, Gaiman has stated that he has no plans on continuing the story or developing new episodes of the series at this time. The author is no stranger to having his work adapted for the screen, with adaptations of Stardust, American Gods, Coraline and Lucifer all making their way to audiences. Still, there are plenty of other Gaiman stories that could be adapted for television or film.

Gaiman’s work tends to lend perfectly to film and television adaptations. His worlds are rich and detailed and his characters are always so well-defined, making his work appealing to many of the most talented actors and actresses currently working today. Good Omens perfectly casted Sheen and Tennant as their respective characters, the two playing off one another in fun, dynamic ways, elevating each other in the process. This lockdown special, though it only utilizes audio, show’s their crackling chemistry on full display. Whether or not the series gets a follow-up remains to be seen, but in the meantime fans can revisit the six episodes of Good Omens currently streaming on Amazon Prime.
