In the scandalous lives of Manhattan’s elite, every day is an opportunity for a party. Rarely does an episode of Gossip Girl go by where its characters aren’t embroiled in drama in the midst of an excessive, elaborate event.

This is part of the popular teen drama’s charm, and the parties always set the stage for some of the show’s most exciting scenes. It would take an age to list every party hosted over the course of Gossip Girl’s six seasons, but some had more of an impact than others.

10 The Snowflake Ball (S2, E12)

Gossip Girl The 10 Best Parties In The Show Ranked

Everything about the Snowflake Ball from the season 2 episode “It’s A Wonderful Lie’s is beautiful. From the sparkling decor, to Chuck’s bejewelled tuxedo, and the return of Blair’s iconic Erickson Beamon necklace, it is an extravagant, wintery affair that’s only outdone by the drama of its attendants.

Jenny plays a cruel prank on Vanessa, purposefully making her dress see-through. Chuck and Blair are at their most flirtatious, having challenged the other to find them the perfect date. Just when it seems like they’re finally back on track, the night comes crashing down with Lily’s news that Bart’s been in an accident. It’s an unforgettable night… mostly for the wrong reasons.

9 The Shepherd Divorce Party (S5, E24)

Serena repeats history in the season 5 episode “The Return of the Ring.” Prior to the events of the pilot, she slept with Nate at the Shepherd wedding, severely damaging both of their relationships with Blair and one of the worst betrayals on Gossip Girl. At the Shepherd divorce party, Serena sleeps with Dan.

The concept of a divorce party is already very Upper East Side and the events of the party are very Gossip Girl. Not for the first time, Serena manages to make the occasion all about herself, turning a regular party into a complete debacle.

8 Chuck’s Halloween Party (S3, E7)

Nobody knows how to throw a sordid event quite like Chuck Bass. To mark the opening of his new club in “How to Succeed in Bassness,” he decides to host a Halloween party – but faces the obstacle of not yet having a liquor license.

Somehow, he manages to procure one in record time and the party forges ahead. But, because he’s Chuck Bass, it still manages to go up in flames. The license is determined to be fake, and he and Blair call the cops to shut down the party and drum up publicity. This leads to yet another blow-up between Blair and Serena, and cements this party as one of the show’s most dramatic.

7 The Masquerade Ball (S1, E6)

In “The Handmaiden’s Tale,” Jenny continues her efforts to claw her way into Blair’s social circles by quite literally serving as her handmaiden for a masquerade ball. Blair has big hopes for the event, having arranged a scavenger hunt that leads her boyfriend Nate to her so they can start over.

Of course, this doesn’t go according to plan. The party is decadent, as are the outfits and masks, but Nate only has eyes for Serena. Or, the person he thinks is Serena. He kisses Jenny, who flees and accidentally drops her bracelet. Blair finds it and realizes she snuck in. It’s teenage betrayal and melodrama at its finest – and spells even more conflict in Blair and Nate’s increasingly doomed relationship.

6 Blair’s Kiss On The Lips Party (Season 1, Episode 1)

Kiss on the Lips is the first big high school party thrown on Gossip Girl. Hosted (and dictated) by Blair, it’s an exclusive affair limited to those the Queen Bee deems worthy.

With Blair and Serena tied up in a power struggle after the latter’s surprise return to the Upper East Side, Serena doesn’t make the cut. She and Dan crash the party anyway… just in time to save Jenny from Chuck’s unwanted advances. The whole thing is toxic, but the perfect set-up for the twisted, elitist environment of the entire show.

5 Prom (Season 2, Episode 24)

Prom is a big event in any teen show, and this Gossip Girl prom is more luxurious and over-the-top than any other. In “Valley Girls,” fans get to see Blair experience the night she’s always dreamed of, complete with a custom-designed gown and a night in a suite at the Plaza.

The event is a sophisticated affair, with prom dresses that wouldn’t look out of place in a haute couture fashion show. But it’s still filled with the twists and turns that the show does best. In one of Gossip Girl’s most romantic scenes, it’s revealed that Chuck has secretly sabotaged Blair’s prom so she’ll be happy, and manipulated the vote for Prom Queen so she’d win.

4 The White Party (Season 2, Episode 1)

Everyone in Gossip Girl loves a party with a good dress code. In the season two premiere “Summer, Kind Of Wonderful”, the White Party is the place to be, with everyone who is anyone flocking to the Hamptons to wear all-white and participate in some melodrama.

The outfits are beautiful (especially Serena’s), but what should be an elegant affair descends into chaos. Serena kisses Nate to make his affair-of-the-summer, Catherine, jealous. Dan sees it all, and also gets jealous. Then Blair uses Marcus to make Chuck jealous, before kicking off a year’s worth of conflict when she asks Chuck to finally admit that he loves her.

3 Blair’s 20th Birthday (Season 4, Episode 7)

Despite her best efforts, Blair’s parties have a habit of becoming a scandalous spectacle. In the season 4 episode “War At The Roses,” she celebrates her 20th birthday in the wake of a truce with Chuck, with the former couple at war following their messy split.

Her plans for a peaceful, grown-up celebration are thrown awry thanks to Dan and Eric. The pair want to drive a wedge between Blair and Chuck for leverage to allow Jenny to return to Manhattan, so play an embarrassing video of Blair drunk on a night out during their relationship. Drama ensues when Blair publicly blames Chuck. This is all entertaining enough, even before the pair finally give into the tension and have sex on her piano. The episode also gets bonus points for a musical Robyn cameo.

2 Chuck’s Saints And Sinners Party (Season 4, Episode 9)

Gossip Girl The 10 Best Parties In The Show Ranked

Chuck’s Saints and Sinners party in “The Witches of Bushwick” is the perfect blend of luxury and debauchery. Guests have the option to dress as angels or devils at an event intended to prove that Chuck’s bad boy image is as relevant as ever.

What follows is one of the most eventful occasions in the entire show. Jenny, Vanessa, and Juliet hatch a plan to sabotage Serena, before Juliet drugs and kidnaps her. After kissing for the entire world to see, Chuck and Blair decide to put their relationship on hold, making this one of the best Blair and Chuck Gossip Girl episodes. They want to be able to pursue their individual dreams. It’s a surprisingly mature move as in the past, this party would have been an occasion for them to completely implode, and this shows how much they’ve grown.

1 The Debutante Ball (Season 1, Episode 10)

Chuck, Blair, Serena, and Nate’s debutante ball is everything a Gossip Girl party should be. At first glance, it’s a sophisticated, upper class event filled with beautiful gowns and financially-compatible couples. But trouble is bubbling beneath the surface, with Chuck secretly yearning for Blair and Dan battling Serena’s grandmother Cece for the right to be her date.

Everything explodes soon enough. Chuck sets up a fight to get Blair to himself, while Dan crashes to steal Serena away from her Cece-approved partner. The party delivers some of the most best moments in the show’s history, as well as Serena’s iconic gold gown. Most significantly, this party features the heartbreaking scene when Chuck spies Blair and Nate reuniting – proving, for the first time, that Chuck Bass has a heart.
