When Grand Theft Auto 6 is eventually announced, fans around the globe will likely be hoping to see one or two their favorite recurring characters pop up again. Characters like Patrick McReary, Ken Rosenberg, and Johnny Klebitz have made a habit of appearing in several entries in the series. However, not every character needs to return in subsequent entries. Some characters had an arc that doesn’t need a second act, and some are just bad characters to begin with. Regardless, some Grand Theft Auto characters just don’t need to be seen again.
For the most part, the characters below played side roles in past Grand Theft Auto games; however, one major protagonist who probably doesn’t need t come back is Trevor. His unhinged personality did a fine job of giving the player the opportunity to go wild in GTA 5’s open world. That said, his demeanor can drag as the game goes on. Plus, much of his behavior borders on bullying, especially with his treatment of Wade. The nail in the coffin is that his arc seems wrapped up by the end of Grand Theft Auto 5. He could make an appearance in whatever GTA 6’s version of GTA Online is, but there doesn’t seem to be much to be gained from him coming back for the main story.
Another GTA 5 character who feels like their arc is completed is Amanda De Santa. Michael’s wife had a storyline that both fleshed out his character and gave Rockstar Games a chance to explore a struggling marriage with its trademark sarcasm. However, it seemed like they had fully explored everything they could with Amanda and Michael, making her a character that’s probably not worth coming back to. It might make sense to throw her whole family in here, but Jimmy did have a fun turn in GTA Online – although he would have to grow up some.
Which Grand Theft Auto Characters Shouldn’t Come Back
A character most GTA Online players would probably like to be rid of is Simeon Yetarian. The player’s “uncle” in the multiplayer mode is one of the more annoying characters in the game, and he’s constantly calling players to tell them about a new job. Given that he only had a limited role in the proper Grand Theft Auto storyline, he should be replaced by another, less irritating character in GTA 6’s online mode.
While this list is heavy on GTA 5 characters, it’s also important to look at other games, especially with GTA 6 being rumored to take place in Vice City. That game was full of memorable characters, but some of them might be best to skip if Rockstar does head back. For example, Auntie Poulet was one of the more interesting characters in Vice City, but her voice actor sadly passed away in 2016. It would be difficult for Rockstar to replace Miss Cleo with someone else given how famous she became in the late 90s. The same goes for Steve Scott, who was voiced by Dennis Hopper. It would be better to leave these characters with the iconic voices they had originally, rather than recast them.
The Grand Theft Auto universe is full of memorable characters, but most of them are better as one-offs. Rockstar Games has shown a flair for creating full character arcs that don’t need a second act. Instead, Grand Theft Auto 6 would be better if it creates new characters whole cloth to build the game’s story around.
