GTA 5 Mega Ramp Mod May Be the Greatest Thing Ever Added To the Game

One Grand Theft Auto V modder has brought a towering mega ramp to the game, the perfect tool to send semi-trucks and banana buses into the sky.

One Grand Theft Auto V modder has seen fit to grace the game with a “mega ramp” of his own creation. Modding has always been a big part of the Grand Theft Auto experience for many, as the game’s huge fully realized world lends itself well to alterations of all sorts. Even outside of the important legacy of the Hot Coffee incident, players have recreated old cities in new engines, flooded the world map, and added in unlicensed superhero from a certain popular cinematic universe. It’s all outside of Rockstar’s vision for its crime-filled universe, but that’s why it’s so fun.

Of course, most of this modding takes place on PC. While Grand Theft Auto is popular on both computers and consoles, the closed platforms of Microsoft and Sony make it very difficult to alter game code on a consumer device. Since PCs are open by their very nature, developers have a hard time locking any of that stuff down, and most don’t try in the first place. A thriving mod scene can bring new eyes to a game, keeping it selling years and years past its original release date. Alongside GTA Online and its own fan-created content, it’s certainly one reason why Grant Theft Auto V remains so popular.

Modder Olli43 is one of the fine folks making Grand Theft Auto 5 players return over and over. He posted on his YouTube channel about his latest creation, a “mega ramp” that jets high into the sky above Los Santos. Olli43 spends the first bit of the video adding a roof to the ramp to ensure that any car that falls into it stays within bounds. Once version 2.0 is ready to go, the modder then slams a pink sports car into it. After a period of freefall, the car lands on the wood below, and the proceeding jump performs behind expectations with six full mid-air spins.

Following the first run, the modder than warps back up into the skies above to try different ways to play with his new toy. There was a first-person run that doesn’t end up the way Olli43 hopes, although it does provide some pretty gnarly viewing for anyone with motion sickness. There’s a later run in the “banana bus” that’s highlighted in the thumbnail that does go just as hoped, sending the public transport careening into the air at ridiculous speeds. The modder promises more Grand Theft Auto V fun with his mega ramp in the near future, so it may be worth a “like and subscribe” as the YouTube folks say.

Console players may be able to enjoy Grand Theft Auto V from the comfort of their couch, but nothing in that version of the game will top mods like the mega ramp. Considering how the written humor of the game’s story hasn’t aged particularly well in the seven years since release, it’s good to see others bringing a different kind of levity to the proceedings. Rockstar’s open worlds are sandboxes, and modders have the best scoop and shovel to take full advantage of them.
