A new Rockstar Games job listing may suggest that Grand Theft Auto 6 will have destructible environments. Although it hasn’t been officially announced, it’s heavily presumed that Rockstar is working on GTA 6. A number of reputable sources have suggested the game’s existence over the last couple of years and it’s believed it will be the developer’s next original game following the 2018 release of Red Dead Redemption 2.

There have been a number of small details regarding Rockstar’s mystery game throughout 2021. Rumors suggest GTA 6 may have a Bitcoin-like cryptocurrency as a form of currency for players to earn in more high-stakes missions. There will also be a working stock market, so it’s unclear if there will also be a working crypto market that sees the value of the game’s coins rise and fall based on volatility. If this feature is present, though, it surely won’t be the only thing setting GTA 6 apart from its predecessors.

Reddit user BongRippaTheSkeptic recently found a new VFX artist job listing on Rockstar’s website that confirms Rockstar is working on a game with effects like rain dropping off buildings, insects that fly around the player, and buildings that can crash to the ground in large scale destruction events. It’s unclear if this would be dynamic and something that would happen in the open world or if it’s more related to the events of GTA 6’s story. For those doubting that the game is actually coming, Snoop Dogg recently suggested Dr. Dre is making music for GTA 6, but he may have also been referencing a new GTA 5 update or music for the GTA trilogy.

It seems relatively unlikely that destruction as massive as tumbling skyscrapers would be dynamically caused by players in GTA 6, as it would drastically change the world on a permanent level. It sounds more reasonable to expect this as an event in the game’s story mode, so that the world and narrative can be structured around it happening, rather than allowing it to happen randomly. Rockstar has done things like this in previous games, albeit on a smaller level.

Typically, small buildings in GTA 5 or Red Dead Redemption 2 can be damaged or even built from scratch over the course of the game, but a whole collapsing skyscraper would be vastly different. A recent Rockstar job listing also indicated GTA 6 may have an international setting, a first for the series since GTA: London 1969, an expansion to the first game. As of right now, the developer is remaining quiet on what GTA 6 holds in store, but since it’s a Rockstar game, it will likely be quite ambitious.
