GTA 6 Rumors & Leaks Mirror Vice Citys Biggest Advancements

Rockstar hasn’t officially announced Grand Theft Auto 6 yet, but most fans are fairly certain it will be revealed eventually. When GTA 6 will be announced, or even where the next Grand Theft Auto game is set, however, is still very much up in the air. Despite this, rumors about GTA 6 returning to Vice City have been running rampant on the internet for years now, and excited players have been expressing at length what they would like to see added to the newest GTA game.

One of the most widely circulated GTA 6 rumors is the “Project Americas” theory, which suggests players may not just see a return to Vice City but also a series revival of the “multiple cities” feature which past games like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and the original Grand Theft Auto included. While it’s likely much of what the “Project Americas” leak says is false, it does provide an interesting insight into what players are hoping for when it comes to Grand Theft Auto 6’s release, as does the multitude of fan-made surveys available online.

Besides a playable female protagonist and the ability to engage more with animals like dogs, one of the biggest things Grand Theft Auto fans have asked for in GTA 6 is more explorable interiors. The city of Los Santos and the surrounding San Andreas countryside is an engaging location for many, but the lack of a large slew of different interior locations – a problem many open world games have had in the past – makes the whole environment feel less immersive, less real than it should. This complaint echoes what Grand Theft Auto fans were saying over a decade ago, in the time between the release of GTA 3 and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Is More Of A Blueprint Than GTA 3

Grand Theft Auto 3 was the game which brought the GTA series into the third dimension and made it a household name, but it was Grand Theft Auto: Vice City that introduced a plethora of new features and actions which would go on to define the GTA franchise moving forward. While Grand Theft Auto 3 was lamented for having basically zero explorable interiors (Salvatore’s house, Ray’s bathroom, and glass-walled buildings notwithstanding) Vice City introduced hardware stores where players could buy weapons, purchasable properties and storefronts players could both explore and take missions from, an entire mall, and added random enterable rooms sporadically across the map.

All of these features would be expanded upon in later Grand Theft Auto titles, but that wasn’t all Vice City added to the franchise. It also brought boats, motorcycles, and helicopters into the game’s 3D universe, introduced different tiers and types of weapons, and featured a voiced protagonist for the first time. With so many firsts for the GTA series introduced in Vice City, it’s no wonder players who are excited about the eventual release of GTA 6 are gravitating towards rumors concerning that location reappearing.

Whether or not GTA 6 actually is set in Vice City is currently unknown, but the things long-time Grand Theft Auto players are wishing for – more engaging characters, more lifelike cities, more explorable interiors – are all things GTA 3 fans wanted from Vice City years ago. That game delivered an experience whose influence is still being felt today, so hopefully Rockstar will keep that trend going and include all the things fans really want whenever Grand Theft Auto 6 does release.
