Jamie Lloyd and John Tate are not canon in the Halloween reboot continuity, but bringing them back in Halloween Ends is a smart move for the film.

Halloween Ends Why Jamie Lloyd & John Tate Should Return

Halloween Ends should see the return of Jamie Llyod and John Tate. Both are Laurie’s children in two different continuities within the Halloween franchise. Jamie is introduced in the Cult of Thorn trilogy, while John features in Halloween: H20. Though those films are not part of the reboot continuity, David Gordon Green should consider bringing these two characters back for Halloween Ends.

In the Cult of Thorn trilogy, Jamie is introduced having been adopted by the Lloyds following Laurie’s death in a car accident. She is subsequently stalked by Michael throughout all three films, with her being ultimately killed by Michael in Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers. John, meanwhile, is Laurie’s son, going by the name “Tate” on account of Laurie changing her name to “Keri Tate” in order to conceal her identity. Attending a boarding school in California, John is attacked by Michael, prompting Laurie to fight back, similar to Laurie’s 2018 counterpart.

Though John and Jamie are no longer canon in the reboot continuity, it would be the right choice for Green to include them in Halloween Ends. Now that Michael has killed Karen, it’s plausible to have both characters return to Haddonfield and help their mother avenge their sister’s death. Doing so would not only bring Halloween Ends to an epic conclusion but also bring the entire Michael-Laurie saga in the Halloween franchise full circle.

In Halloween 2018, Laurie mentions to Aaron and Dana that she has gone through two divorces. While one of those marriages produces Karen, there isn’t much mentioned about the other beyond that line. It’s easy to believe Laurie conceives John and Jamie from this other marriage, and unlike Karen, they completely cut off all contact with her and left Haddonfield, hence the lack of mention of either of them in Halloween 2018 or Halloween Kills.

In Halloween Kills, David Gordon Green reintroduces the scene where Sheriff Brackett finds Annie’s body in the 1981 sequel, Halloween II. This, along with the prominence of the Silver Shamrock masks, proves that, although Green has removed the other sequels in the franchise from his continuity, he is willing to pull from them. In that sense, by bringing Jamie and John back, Green has an opportunity to bring the entire Halloween franchise full circle, if not necessarily connected. Having Laurie’s two other children join her and Allyson in their final confrontation with Michael is an effective way of bringing the long-running feud between Laurie and Michael to its conclusion not just in Halloween Ends, but for the entire franchise as well. It can also bring a sense of closure to the story arcs of Jamie and John.

With Kyle Richards’ Lindsey Wallace possibly returning, there’s hope that David Gordon Green can include more legacy characters in Halloween Ends. Ultimately, Jamie and John returning is up to whether Green can or will fit them into the story as well as the interest and availability of Josh Hartnett, Danielle Harris, or J.C. Brandy. Viewers and fans of the franchise will just have to wait for the next year when the release of Halloween Ends gets closer.
