Halloween Kills Secretly Spoiled A Major Death Before Release

Warning! SPOILERS for Halloween Kills.

Halloween Kills accidentally spoiled its most surprising and upsetting major character death before the movie was released. The second installment of David Gordon Green’s Halloween trilogy, Halloween Kills, picks up right where the 2018 movie left off, with Micheal Myers escaping the fiery death trap set by Laurie Strode. Haddonfield is now terrorized by Michael Myers yet again, with previous survivors gathering the town to take down the serial killer for good. All the while, Laurie, her daughter Karen, and granddaughter Allyson must find other ways to stop Michael’s rampage and grieve their losses from Halloween (2018).

While plenty of gruesome deaths are expected of the Halloween franchise, Michael Myers has his highest kill count of the entire franchise in Halloween Kills. Evil didn’t die that night, but 34 Haddonfield residents did. Every death in Halloween Kills was brutal, from those who took their own lives to the Malignant-like insanity of some of Michael’s skillful kills. Among the notable characters who died in Halloween Kills are Tommy Doyle, Marion Chambers, Lonnie and Cameron Elon, and, for the movie’s final kill, Karen (Judy Greer).

Halloween Kills’ climactic ending features Karen looking out of Michael Myers’ window before he appears suddenly behind her. In a stylistic homage to the shower kill scene in Psycho, Micheal brandishes his knife and leaves Karen as his final victim in the movie. While Karen’s death was surprising, considering she was so close to making it out alive, Universal accidentally spoiled the character’s fate before the movie premiered. Judy Greer told Vulture that when she began doing press for Halloween Kills a month prior to its premiere, the first question she was asked was about her not being listed on the IMDb page for the sequel, Halloween Ends. Jamie Lee Curtis was obviously going to be listed on the sequel’s page, but leaving out Judy Greer as Karen was apt to tip off avid fans of the franchise.

After realizing that her character’s fate moving into Halloween Ends was already being secretly exposed so early on, Greer called Universal Pictures and told them it would be best to list her on the sequel’s IMDb page. Greer’s quick thinking helped the surprise factor of Karen’s tragic Halloween Kills death, but the fact that her name originally being absent from Halloween Ends’ page may debunk theories that Karen actually survived. It’s been revealed that Halloween Ends features a time-jump to the present day after Halloween (2018) and Halloween Kills’ 2018 timeline, so it’s unknown if the final movie will have time to feature Judy Greer actually showing up onscreen.

As of now, Jamie Lee Curtis (Laurie), Andi Matichak (Allyson), Nick Castle/James Jude Courtney (Michael Myers), and Nick Lawrence (credited as Police Officer) are the only actors listed on Halloween Ends’ IMDb page. It seems that following Halloween Kills’ premiere and the revelation that Karen became a Michael Myers victim, IMDb finally removed Greer from the cast list. Interestingly, Judy Greer only mentioned the Halloween Kills IMDb mix-up when the reporter asked her about whether or not her listing on Halloween Ends’ page meant Karen really survived. She doesn’t directly answer the question, but by revealing that she was originally not supposed to be on the Halloween Ends cast list, it’s likely Halloween Kills truly does mark the end of Judy Greer’s time as Karen.
