Despite the game’s recent release, Halo Infinite modders are already adding new usable vehicles into the first-person shooter’s multiplayer mode. After a rocky development and multiple delays, 343 Industries’ next installment in the beloved sci-fi series is set to release on December 8. However, Halo Infinite’s multiplayer was released for free on November 15 in honor of the franchise’s 20th anniversary.

The long-running Halo series is a staple in the first-person shooter genre, and this popularity has resulted in a many fan-made mods over the years. While some developers may discourage players from manipulating their game systems, the franchise’s developers have actually encouraged the fanbase’s modding community by implementing special mod tools. The Master Chief Collection, a remastered anthology created by 343 Industries, has built-in mod support which lets players easily upload and manage various different modifications. This system has allowed players to add their very own vehicles, weapons, game modes and maps into various Halo installments. Such modding often results in wildly creative additions – such as Halo 3’s Zombies Mode mod, which recreates the cooperative wave-based horde mode made popular by the Call of Duty series.

As reported by PC Gamer, many modders are already making their own adjustments to Halo Infinite’s free-to-play multiplayer mode. YouTuber Gamecheat13 recently revealed the Tank Hog, an unstoppable vehicle which combines the maneuverability of the Warthog with the raw firepower of the Scorpion. The Tank Hog was originally created by modders of the past, with incarnations making appearances in titles such as Halo: Reach and Halo 4, but players can now enjoy its use in the series’ latest entry. Meanwhile, YouTuber RejectedShotgun has made the franchise’s massive Pelican dropship – usually seen as a simple feature of the environment – into a fully usable flying vehicle. Currently, the flying fortress possesses no weaponry or special capabilities. That said, it can fly and land realistically, and controlling the Pelican is often modders’ first task in any new Halo title.

While the early release of Halo Infinite multiplayer has allowed modders to get an early start on their creations, the surprise launch caused the delay of some official content. The game’s single-player release will not come until December 8, but Halo Infinite’s Forge and co-op modes now will not arrive until 2022. The series’ cooperative campaign function is scheduled to drop along with Season 2, while Season 3 will bring with it the iconic Forge level editor mode. Due to multiplayer’s early drop, Season 1 has been extended until May 2022, which will therefore push back these highly-anticipated features pretty dramatically.

Halo Infinite’s multiplayer mode launched a little more than a week ago, but modders have already made dramatic additions to the game. No doubt this is partly due to the game’s similarity to past Halo titles, which would make it much easier for veteran modders to work within the recent installment. However, the Halo modding community’s dedication is also a huge factor – with fans’ love for Halo shining through with each amazing achievement.
