Halo Infinite Legendary Difficulty Tips Tricks & Strategies

The Halo series has always been known for its hard gameplay on tougher difficulties, and Halo Infinite’s legendary campaign continues that series trend. Conquering a legendary campaign in a Halo game is the hardest thing to do besides completing a legendary run with all the collectible skull modifiers on (LASO). Completing a legendary run requires the player to master all the gameplay elements in any given Halo game, and that has never been more true than in Halo Infinite’s legendary difficulty. With the addition of plenty of new equipment, weapons, game systems, and a new open world, a Halo legendary campaign has never been so complex. Luckily, that doesn’t make it the most difficult.

Veterans of Halo rejoice because Halo Infinite’s legendary campaign is not at all more difficult than Halo 2. The campaign falls more along the lines of Halo: CE and Halo 3’s legendary difficulty, finding a nice soft spot in between those two games. Halo Infinite’s campaign is very generous with checkpoints, which can take a lot of the rage away from the experience, unlike previous game’s checkpoint systems, Infinite auto-saves every 30 seconds or so unless Chief is in combat. Even if Chief is in combat, the game will still auto-save after a few enemies are cleared. Where Infinites legendary campaign gets tricky is during the combat itself.

As usual with Halo legendary campaigns, Chief’s shields take less damage to break and all enemies deal more damage to break them. In past Halo games, this would cause enemies, like the infamous Jackel sniper in Halo 2, to one-shot kill Master Chief on sight from what seemed to be several miles away. While there is no one-shot kill Jackel sniper in this game, Infinite challenges Halo fans in ways the series has never done before.

Tips, Tricks, & Strategies for Halo Infinite’s Legendary Campaign

Equipment & Upgrades

For starters, the enemy count in Infinite is way higher than any other Halo, so players really have to keep moving cover to cover to survive. In order to do that, players really need to master certain equipment in their arsenals, like Infinite’s new grappling hook, drop wall, and thruster. Players can also upgrade the strength of Chief’s shields using the same upgrade materials used on equipment, so it’s best to do that in-between equipment upgrades. As for which equipment players should upgrade first, the grapple hook should be the main focus of the early game upgrades because of its versatility in both movement and combat. Afterward, players should upgrade their drop wall and Chief’s shields. The thruster and threat sensor are more situation than useful in the campaign, so players can upgrader them as they wish. Side note, it’s fun to combine the fully upgraded thruster and grappling hook during combat, but not at all necessary.

Valor, HVTs, FOBs, & Marines

Earning valor in Halo Infinite is the only way to unlock more powerful guns and vehicles, like Infinite’s only unlockable aerial vehicle the Wasp, to use in the campaign. Valor can be earned by rescuing captured Marines, clearing Banished outposts, and destroying propaganda towers all throughout the ring. Valor can also be earned by clearing out Foward Operating Bases throughout the ring. These FOBs act as fast travel points as well as a hub for Marines where Chief can instantly spawn in unlocked weapons or vehicles for use on Zeta Halo. More powerful weapons can also be earned by killing high-value targets, another one of Halo Infinite’s side objectives. However, most of the best weapons in the game are earned through valor.

As for the Marines in Halo Infinite, they are actually very good and can make clearing the open-world sections of the game much easier on legendary. Marines are much beefier and smarter than previous Halo campaigns and can really help players win in fights where the enemies have a clear advantage. After players have unlocked enough Valor, they can equip 5 Marines with Rocket Launchers, load them up in a Razorback and basically clear any part of the map they want. It may seem overpowered, but Razorbacks can quickly be destroyed if players aren’t careful enough. Luckily, Marines are just as good on foot as they are on Razorback, and they’ll follow Chief wherever he goes.

Best Weapons & Tips for Bosses

As for the best weapons in Halo Infinite’s campaign, players won’t have a problem clearing out the entire legendary campaign with default weapon variants like the Battle Rifle, Sidekick Pistol, or Commando. Power weapons become available at FOBs after gaining enough Valor, but they are hard to find ammo for. The hardest enemies in the game are bosses, HVTs, and Hunters, but each is fairly easily taken out using power weapons combined with the simple Disrupter Pistol. The Disrupter delivers shock damage over time and seems to be the bane of high-health enemies’ existence, especially Hunters.

The open-world of Halo Infinite allows for multiple ways to approach combat on Zeta Halo, and sometimes the best way to defeat large groups of enemies is to use its terrain as an advantage. Spawning in a Sniper Rifle at a FOB and sticking to the high ground is a reliable way (although difficult) to take out enemies from a distance. Players who master each piece of equipment, use the terrain, as well as use vehicles and Marines to their full advantage should have no problem clearing the Zeta Halo’s surface as well as the rest of the campaign.
