Happy Home Paradise DLC Is ACNHs Last Paid Expansion Not First

Word out of Nintendo is that the Happy Home Paradise DLC for Animal Crossing: New Horizons will serve as the game’s only paid expansion. After months and months of silence regarding future content, Nintendo unveiled ACNH’s Happy Home Paradise expansion a few weeks ago during a dedicated Direct stream.

The paid DLC invites players to join Lottie’s Paradise Planning team, traveling to different resort islands to ensure hopeful clients can fully realize the vacation home of their dreams. A host of beautiful islands will feature in the package, each bearing unique qualities for users to peruse while searching for whatever matches the desires of their awaiting clientele. Once the right landscape is picked out, the paradise planner can begin designing the dream home itself. Nintendo Switch Online members will even have the opportunity to share their portfolios with friends or invite other players over for a quick tour of their resort islands. Happy Home Paradise goes live next week on Friday, November 5, alongside ACNH’s 2.0 update. The forthcoming DLC release may prove bittersweet to some New Horizons players, however.

In a statement to IGN, a Nintendo representative said Happy Home Paradise will mark the first and last paid expansion for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The spokesperson explained that since this “offers a distinguishing and different gameplay experience,” it made sense for Happy Home Paradise to begin and end ACNH’s paid content releases. And the Version 2.0 update will also constitute the “last major free content update.” Thus, apart from smaller changes and the like, Nintendo’s ongoing support for New Horizons will officially come to a close on November 5.

That next week brings an end to the fresh content for ACNH will no doubt disappoint many an avid player, especially since the wait for said content lasted so long. At the very least, the offerings in Happy Home Paradise and Version 2.0 seem robust enough to keep users busy for quite a while.

Nintendo launched the much-beloved Animal Crossing entry over a year ago in March 2020. It quickly took the world by storm, too, becoming a phenomenon that surpassed even that of its predecessors. Such success is reflected in the sales figures, as well. At last count a couple of weeks ago, Animal Crossing: New Horizons had surpassed an incredible 33 million units sold worldwide.
