The phenomenon that is the Harry Potter franchise is one with a wide array of weird and wonderful things, with the incredible amount of characters living up to that description with their personalities. At Hogwarts, these personalities decide the house for the Witch and Wizard’s time at the school, saying a lot about both them and the house.
There are a lot of opinions out there about the Slytherin house, the second most prominent house of the franchise. A lot of these same opinions are out there for the Scorpio zodiac sign, but while the two do share a lot of traits, there are some differences there as well.
10 Typical – Water
One commonality between all the Hogwarts Houses and the signs of the zodiac is that each of the sixteen of them has an element. Scorpio and Slytherin share the element of water.
Of course, the interpretation and meaning of that element can mean a lot to different people. Still, there is no doubt that Scorpio is the most typical Slytherin of the water signs (the others being Pisces and Cancer) despite often getting confused with a fire sign.
9 Not – Care For Lineage
One of the typical traits of a Slytherin is the care for lineage, with that care going back to Salazar Slytherin and his desire for blood purity, which pops up time and time again in the films and books.
This quality is not one associated with a Scorpio or any sign on a typical level. No majority of a sign will care about ancestry as a factor in their respect or tolerance of someone, there are other factors the signs look at, and Scorpio is no different.
8 Typical – Ambitious
Like bravery is the quintessential Gryffindor trait, ambition is that of Slytherin and one that is pretty much perfectly mirrored in the Scorpio who is also immensely ambitious.
Both are single-minded in achieving their goals, with no other option but to reach them and not allowing any external factors to tell them these goals cannot get done. They aim high and do everything they can to reach high.
7 Not – Animal Is A Scorpion, Not A Snake
Just like each of the houses and zodiac signs has elements, each also has its representative animal. For Slytherin, that is, of course, the snake, and even despite the name, it is easy to think Scorpio shares this.
Alas, Scorpio has the animal of the Scorpion. Other animals get associated with each sign. But with a venomous sting and even fitting with the negative reputation of Scorpio.
6 Typical – Loyalty To Friends
Slytherin often gets viewed as a cruel, cold house, with Scorpios also having those negative connotations to it. Ultimately, these are partly true, both can be selective about who they let in, but both are unbelievably loyal.
Whether it be the Death Eaters to Voldemort or how, in turn, Voldemort welcomes people like Malfoy in, Slytherin is pretty evil, but still loyal. As for Scorpio, their trust can be a trust challenging to earn, but once won, they will be right by your side when needed.
5 Not – Curiosity
Gryffindor is the typical house that craves adventure; Slytherins are far more reserved in that regard. It is not the conventional nature of the Slytherin to go seeking new experiences, sounds, and sights. While many likely enjoy this, it is not typical.
Scorpio is not typically adventurous like a Gryffindor, but they are immensely curious. There is a typical morbid curiosity with the Scorpio, having a penchant for the weird and wonderful. Scorpios get drawn to the mysterious, the unsolved, and the dark and dangerous.
4 Typical – Cunning & Resourceful
One of the other standout qualities of a Slytherin, which can get misconstrued in a negative light, is how cunning they are, with a systematic nature, and careful consideration, as well as their resourceful temperament.
This is another way in which Slytherin and Scorpio match up perfectly. With a calm thought process and unlikely to jump into any situation without thought, Scorpio is every bit as cunning as Slytherin.
3 Not – Emotional
Despite what appears on the surface, Scorpio is one of, arguably the most profoundly emotional sign there is. Their emotions run deep, aiding their passion, and incredible intuition.
This is not to say that Slytherin’s do not have emotions, but while the cold and distant act by a Scorpio is usually accompanied by a deep emotional response, for Slytherin, it is just a coldness. There is no deep-running passion and emotion to the same extent.
2 Typical – Villainous Reputation
The most typical opinion – and infuriating if you were to ask any Scorpio or Slytherin personally – of these two, is that they are both seen as the bad guys, as the villains of the stories.
They stereotypically have the reputation of villainy. Slytherin, because of the tendency to produce Dark Wizards, more than any other house, including the darkest of them all and Scorpio because of the qualities that define them, such as intensity, secrecy, even passion, and ambition.
1 Not – Hates Lying
Scorpio may be cunning and secretive, but that does not mean they do not value honesty. In reality, Scorpio is a sincere sign and very much hates lying, always preferring honesty as the route to go.
The same cannot necessarily get said about Slytherin. Not inherently liars, but certainly do not dislike it despite what Umbridge may say. Slytherins are very willing to lie if it is of their benefit, while Scorpio will stay inherently honest.
