The Hunger Games being a fight to the death means that some characters from Harry Potter would fare better than others if they competed.

As two of the most famous book franchises of the 2000s, both Harry Potter and The Hunger Games have managed to stay in the cultural subconscious. The two projects successfully captured the zeitgeist of the new millennium, appealing to millions of readers around the world.

Fans often enjoy lumping both worlds together, creating wonderful contained chaos with enough material for a whole batch of new stories. And what better way to unite both worlds than by having the Harry Potter characters compete in the titular Hunger Games? The added element of magic would make the Games far more competitive and deadlier, and only a few would manage to come out on top. The question is, who?

10 Luna Lovegood

Luna was a gifted witch, no doubt. She was also highly intelligent, as most Ravenclaws are, and had a unique way of seeing things. Her creativity and outside-the-box mind would definitely be assets in a life-or-death situation.

Yet, for all her considerable gifts, Luna was also a very kind person who disliked violence. Her peculiarity would mean her attention would be on everything but the competition. The brutal Games would be the worst possible place for her, which would ultimately mean she’d be one of the first to go.

9 Neville Longbottom

Neville is one of the bravest characters in the Harry Potter series. Because of his parents’ tragic deaths, Neville is very aware of the dangers and the brutality of war, which means he would know what to expect from the Games.

However, and despite his courage and willingness to do what’s right, Neville was never one of the best wizards. He struggled more than his classmates, and while he proved himself a capable duelist, he was still outranked by pretty much everyone else. Neville would fight valiantly, but the sad truth is, he wouldn’t make it very far in such a terrible competition.

8 Draco Malfoy

The spoiled, egotistical antagonist to Harry while in school, Draco went through a lot over the course of the series. Forced to become a Death Eater, Draco showed his true colors when he couldn’t fulfill the task Voldemort had given him: kill Albus Dumbledore.

Through and through, Draco proved to be somewhat of a coward. His inability to kill also showed how deep down, he truly was a decent person, even if he was also very flawed. He was driven mostly by jealousy and ambition, which only took him so far. This would also prove true in the Games, where his constant need to try and upstage everyone would lead him to an untimely end.

7 Ron Weasley

One third of the Harry Potter trinity, Ron did a lot of growing up during the books’ events. He proved to be dependable, courageous, loyal, and rather shrewd when the situation called for it.

Still, while a decent duelist, his strengths were mostly outside the battlefield. He had what could be described as street-smarts, which would undoubtedly make him last a considerable amount of time in the Games. In the end, though, and with so many wizards and witches fighting for the win, Ron would find himself in serious trouble.

6 Harry Potter

Being the protagonist of the story doesn’t necessarily mean you have to be the very best. Indeed, a major plot point in the HP series is how Harry’s abilities seem to have been granted to him almost by accident, something that is ultimately confirmed to be true.

Harry does possess a series of uniquely valuable traits that make him a force to be reckoned with. He’s a capable leader with a keen understanding of his opponents’ weaknesses. He’s also a hot-head who usually tends to follow his heart instead of his head, making him very vulnerable in the Games. Ultimately, he’d make it to the middle of the competition, but no further.

5 Fleur Delacour

After her introduction in the fourth part of the series, Goblet of Fire, Fleur made several more appearances, especially after becoming a Weasley through her marriage with Bill.

Despite her beauty being the first thing characters notice about her, Fleur is a very strong, capable witch. She was talented enough to qualify for the Triwizard Tournament, after all. She’s also brave and fiercely loyal, staying with Bill even after he got bitten by Greyback, and becoming a member of the Order. She’s also a very skilled duelist, as she successfully helps Bill fight off a horde of Death Eaters during the battle of the seven Potters.

4 Cedric Diggory

Brave, honorable, and very skilled, Cedric is the prototype of the ideal hero. It’s pretty safe to say that, had the Triwizard Tournament not been compromised by Voldemort, Cedric would’ve been the natural victor. He had everything to win the competition, which means he’d also be a natural fit for the Games.

After all, the dangers in the Triwizard Tournament are as high-stakes as those in the Games. Cedric would no doubt be one of the favorites to win the entire thing. First, though, he’d have to get through a couple of really talented people, and it’s unclear if he’d actually be able to do it.

3 Fred & George Weasley

The twins were not only hilarious and charming, but they were also incredibly smart. They had a natural talent for inventions, as they came up with an entire brand of highly successful practical joke objects that would definitely come in handy during the Games.

With their unique and imaginative creations, the twins would be able to get rid of most of their competition without even having to touch a weapon. The only problem would be their inability to harm each other if they did manage to be the last two standing. Would they be able to find a way to claim victory? Or would the game makers simply get rid of them both?

2 Ginny Weasley

While the movies do a bad job portraying it, the books make several mentions of how Ginny is a supremely talented witch. Horace Slughorn is so impressed by her hexes that he invites her to be part of the Slug Club along with Harry and Hermione.

One of the strongest members of Dumbledore’s Army, Ginny is a natural when it comes to dueling. Her raw power would make her one of the fiercest competitors in the Games, and she’d surely be a favorite to win. Her beauty and charisma would also make her huge with sponsors, who would no doubt shower her with gifts, making her an absolute threat in the deathly competition.

1 Hermione Granger

By far the most obvious choice, Hermione would be the instant favorite to win the Games. She’s not only the brightest, most talented witch of her generation, but she’s also a dedicated student who puts in twice the work everyone else does.

Determined, consistent, and unwavering, Hermione is almost unstoppable once she sets her mind to something. Her gifted mind would surely find more than a way to eliminate her competition. Time and again, it’s stated how she’s above everyone else in terms of smarts and witchcraft ability, making her the absolute safest bet to win the Hunger Games.
