Harry Potter Every Character Lord Voldemort Personally Killed

As the primary antagonist of the Harry Potter franchise, Lord Voldemort had a hand in a lot of killing, but determining an exact number of victims is difficult. The half-blood wizard, commonly referred to as He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named throughout the wizarding community, was the most powerful practicer of the Dark Arts. In fact, he was the strongest wizard in history behind Albus Dumbledore. During his mission to conquer the wizarding world and the Muggle community, the Dark Lord killed a large number of people, and most of the time, it was through the use of his own wand.

Before becoming Lord Voldemort, he was known as Tom Riddle. From a young age, Tom was raised in a Muggle orphanage before learning of his identity as a wizard. He then attended Hogwarts where he was sorted into Slytherin House, which was fitting seeing as he was the last living descendant of Salazar Slytherin. In time, Tom fell deeper into the Dark Arts, leading him to drop his Muggle-born name to take the alias of Lord Voldemort. He also gathered a following of witches and wizards who called themselves Death Eaters before beginning the First Wizarding War. Voldemort’s first encounter with young Harry Potter put an end to his first reign, but his disappearance didn’t last long. Even though the second war was deadly, it ended with Voldemort’s demise once and for all.

Lord Voldemort certainly had no qualms when it came to killing. Of course, it was well-known that he wanted to eradicate Muggles, but he also didn’t hesitate in killing fellow wizards and witches. The exact list of figures that he personally killed is a bit subjective. The characters murdered in the movie also don’t exactly match with the victims of the Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling on which the movies were based. That said, here’s a compilation of Lord Voldemort’s most prominent victims.

The Riddle Family

Lily and James Potter, the parents of Harry, were two of Lord Voldemort’s most notable victims. The married couple went into hiding after a prophecy connected the Dark Lord to their infant son. He later found them in Godric’s Hollow on Halloween night in 1981. Lily and James died from the Killing Curse while protecting their only child.

Alastor Moody

In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1, Alastor Moody and other members of the Order of the Phoenix assisted in the mission to transport Harry from Privet Drive to the Burrow. The group was ambushed by Death Eaters during the event known as the Battle of the Seven Potters. While in flight, Moody was hit by Lord Voldemort’s Killing Curse.

Lord Voldemort

After a piece of his soul was killed along with Harry in the Forbidden Forest, Lord Voldemort directly caused his own demise. During the climactic duel between him and Harry, Voldemort used a Killing Curse against his opponent. Since Harry was the true master of the Elder Wand, the spell rebounded and killed Voldemort instead.

Other Deaths Caused By Lord Voldemort

Myrtle Warren: While serving as a student at Hogwarts, the young witch was killed by the Serpent of Slytherin from the orders of Tom Riddle. Since Myrtle was murdered by a Basilisk, it wasn’t a direct kill by the future Lord Voldemort.

Quirinus Quirrell: The Defense Against the Dark Arts professor was possessed by Lord Voldemort and forced to encounter Harry, who ended up severely burning him.

Bathilda Bagshot: The author of A History of Magic was killed at her home to use her corpse as a host for Nagini, but it was unclear if Voldemort killed her directly.

Cedric Diggory: During the third task in the Triwizard Tournament, Harry and Cedric were transported to a graveyard through the use of a Portkey. The two wizards came face-to-face with Voldemort who ordered Peter Pettigrew to “kill the spare,” so he killed Cedric with the Killing Curse.

Peter Pettigrew: The wizard, known as Wormtail, was once a member of the Order of the Phoenix before joining Lord Voldemort’s forces. While at Malfoy Manor, Wormtail hesitated in killing Harry, which was viewed as a weakness. Though the movies didn’t show it, Wormtail was killed by the silver hand given to him by Voldemort in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Severus Snape: The death of Severus Snape was one of the most tragic in the Harry Potter franchise, but technically, Lord Voldemort didn’t kill the man with his own hands. Upon thinking that Snape was the master of the Elder Wand, Voldemort ordered Nagini to kill the wizard. The snake bit Snape in the neck, killing him with poisonous venom.
