Harry Potter The Muggles Outfits Ranked Best To Worst

Muggles, as we all know are non-magical, ordinary, sometimes boring human beings. But what about their clothes? Well, it’s a mixed bag, really. Petunia Dursley’s clothes are so bad that they are good. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’s Mary Lou Barebone captures the perfect 1920’s vibe. Most of the male Muggles are hopeless, but there are one or two exceptions. We’ve got everything from street cred, to retro, to, well, boring. What is best and what is worst? It’s all in the eye of the beholder

Here are 10 Muggles whose clothes are good, bad or just plain awful.

10 Modesty Barebone – Couture Child

The outfits Modesty wears in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them are to die for. From the little white dress to the grey number with matching hat, she’s got the couture vibe down pat. Her blue round neck dress is cute, but not in the same league as her other outfits.

Modesty is, of course, the adopted daughter of witch-hating Mary Lou Barebone. It’s kind of sad because in the end she gets left all alone. There goes the clothing allowance.

9 Mary Lou Barebone – Fantastic Beast’s Clothes Horse

Okay, we don’t particularly care for Mary Lou Barebone. In fact, she is not a nice person. She believes in magic but has vowed to stamp it out. She has adopted children that she treats very badly indeed. She is not a barrel of laughs.

But her clothes are impeccable if a little severe. She’s got the 1920s vibe, from cloche hat to tailored coat with a shawl collar. Her dress sense may lack spontaneity, but like everything else in her life, she has planned it down to the last detail.

8 Dudley Dursley – Nerdy Street Cred

Here’s another character we don’t care much for. In the end, he and Harry kind of reconciled. But we have to admit that Dudley does a nice range of what we can only call nerdy street cred. The shorts are the best thing about the outfit. The top? Not a natural fiber in sight. Like Petunia, he can be so bad that he is good.

Now, let’s talk about the necklace. No, let’s just forget the necklace we think. Dudley is up there with the best because he is making an effort to be cool. He won’t make it, but at least he is trying.

7 Jacob Kowalski – Fantastic Beast’s Natty Dresser

Jacob is a cool, funny guy, even if he is a Muggle. In Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, he runs into Newt Scamander at a bank and the two becomes friends. Jacob has his eyes opened to the magical world, only to have his memory erased by Scamander.

His dress style? Cool man about town, kind of vibe. Natty even. Even if he can’t remember him, Jacob owes Newt an awful lot, we think. Because of Newt, he got the bakery business he always wanted. More money for clothes.

6 Petunia Dursley – 1950s Stepford Wife Look

Talk about clothes that channel retro. Petunia has got that nailed. From her perky little mini-skirt sundress to her frilly aprons, she is making a statement. Actually, the perky little mini and the frilly aprons put out conflicting vibes. So we wonder just exactly what Petunia gets up to.

Like Dudley, she is so very bad that she comes around the bad spectrum headed toward good. Not great. But kitschy good. Button-down with a hint of something else, maybe a little naughty. Maybe not. She is married to Vernon.

5 Aunt Marge – Overstuffed And Over-Dressed

Aunt Marge makes the middle of the list because her outfit was really a series of outfits. In the Prisoner of Azkaban Harry lost it when Marge insulted his parents. So, he zapped her with underage magic. She simply inflated and floated away. Pam Ferris who played Aunt Marge has said it was a laborious process, involving body suits inflated with air and four different outfits that were stretched to the limit, revealing more of Aunt Marge than anyone wanted to see.

Aunt Marge is one of the least likable characters in the whole franchise. Everyone was hoping she would just float away and never be seen again.

4 Mrs. Mason – The Icing On The Outfit

The brown-nosing Dursleys have Mr. and Mrs. Mason over in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Before they arrive, Petunia practices compliments. Harry is read the riot act and is confined to his room. The only thing is Dobby shows up and levitates a cake that comes crashing down on the oh-so-stuffy and snobby Mrs. Mason.

Her outfit before the cake is so very tasteful (and a little bit dull). It whispers “I have a lot of money”. And we don’t like it much After the cake? It’s more fun. Mrs. Mason runs screaming from the house. That went well, didn’t it Vernon?

3 Vernon Dursley – Boring, Boring, Boring

Let’s face it, boys and girls, Vernon is a bit of a slob, has a nasty temper, and dislikes Harry intensely. He hates witches. He hates magic. But, on a positive note, he loves Petunia and Dudley. His dress sense can best be described as boring and unimaginative. At least Petunia and Dudley have some kitschy flare. Vernon just goes for bland.

Vernon is not a very nice man, but he is, unintentionally, a very funny one. Pity about his clothes sense, or lack thereof. Maybe he should borrow some of Dudley’s outfits.

2 Frank Bryce – Shabby Not So Chic Caretaker

Frank Bryce, played by Eric Sykes, is the caretaker of Riddle House. His style? As we said, shabby and not so chic. There is no color to the man. He has probably been wearing the same outfits for decades. In the end, he is zapped by Voldemort (and not the fashion police) in the Goblet of Fire.

It’s a dark night and he sees a light on in Riddle House. So, he goes to investigate. We could have told him that wasn’t such a great idea. Voldemort is making a comeback and he throws the Killing Curse Frank’s way.

1 Hermione’s Mother And Father – Even More Boring Than Vernon

Hermione’s mother and father are perfectly decent, hardworking professional people. They are dentists. They have apparently accepted Hermione’s magical abilities and are more than a little proud of her smarts. When Hermione leaves to hit the road with Harry and Ron in Deathly Hallows, Part I, she erases their memories as far as she is concerned.

The only thing we have against them is that it is pretty hard to imagine any outfits anywhere that are more boring than the ones these two wear. It’s almost sad, which we think is the whole point. Sorry, we’ve reached the nadir of Muggle costumes with these two.
