Haunted 4 True Stories That Are Definitely Fake (& 6 Stories That Chilled Us To The Bone)

Whenever you ask anyone if they believe in hauntings, ghosts, aliens, or evil spirits, the answer that you get will typically be a total toss-up. And it’s easy to see why. It makes a lot of sense that so many people are non-believers because there’s no actual concrete evidence that these kinds of things exist, but it also makes sense that so many people believe in it just because there are so many people in the world that seem to have had these experiences.

But a non-believer might just turn into a believer if they watched the Netflix series Haunted, and a believer might be too scared to ever sleep again if they watched the show. There are some stories on the show that stretch the bounds of believability, while there are others that are absolutely terrifying. So here are 4 stories on Haunted that were obviously fake, and 6 stories that absolutely chilled us to the bone.

10 Chilling: The Mother From Hell

When it comes to crimes that exist in the real world, it’s hard to think of anything more terrible and frightening than a mother killing her own children. And in the series premiere of Haunted, a man tells the story of a ghost that has haunted him since he was a young boy. The ghost that terrorizes him sounds genuinely terrifying, and what’s scarier is that he has no one to share his stories with that actually believed him.

But once his family is moving out of the apartment where they live, he discovers that a mother murdered her children and killed herself in their apartment just days before they moved in.

9 Fake: The Levitating Lady

In the Haunted episode titled “Ward of Evil,” a few employees of a nursing home describe some very interesting and terrifying instances of a possible demonic possession, and honestly, the very fact that more than one person makes claims about the evil spirit that seemed to be attacking one of the home’s residents makes it seem more plausible.

However, in one of the dramatic reenactments, the possessed woman is shown literally levitating off of the bed like something straight out of The Exorcist. And seriously, could anyone possibly imagine seeing something that insane and terrifying and still going back to work the next day?

8 Chilling: Fake Friends

With a show named Haunted, it seems safe to assume that most of the stories will be scary as hell. And while the story of an evil spirit named Clarence that is told over the course of the episode “Stolen Gravestone” is undoubtedly terrifying, what almost makes it even scarier is that the object of Clarence’s obsession initially believes Clarence to be a friendly ghost.

As time goes on, the interaction between them gets darker and darker, but the woman who describes seeing him said that she initially saw him as a protective force in her life, and that when he pulled her into his darkness she wanted to let him.

7 Chilling: Summoning Evil

It’s obviously still up for debate whether or not spirits like ghosts of real people or demonic entities even exist, but it’s hard not to be frightened by the incalculable number of stories that people tell about experiences with the unknown. And it’s one thing to become the target of these entities by accident, but it’s quite another when you become its target because someone has invited these spirits into your life.

In the episode “Demon In The Dark,” a family discusses the evil spirits that seem to inhabit their house after one of their family members began dabbling in dark magic, and it’s an unsettlingly believable story.

6 Fake: The “Dark Feeling” Coming Over The Slaughterhouse

One of the most utterly insane and horrifying stories in the history of Haunted is about a family living in an isolated house that is headed by a patriarch who is also a serial murderer. It’s kind of hard to believe that someone could be a serial killer and not get caught, especially with that many witnesses, but it’s not totally out of the realm of possibility.

But one of the storytellers explains that eventually, some sort of demonic activity began and that the vibe in the house turned very dark. And demonic activity would logically give off a terrible vibe, but no one in the world would ever say that a murder house started giving off a horrible vibe only AFTER the demonic activity began.

5 Chilling: Conversion Therapy

Although the series Haunted is based on stories of actual hauntings, the season 2 episode “Cult of Torture” is easily one of the scariest and most upsetting episodes because the bulk of it’s horror is based on things that we all know exist in the world. The family who describes their interactions with demonic forces tell a compelling story, but what makes it such a grim story is that these children who were raised in a zealous Christian cult were abused and tortured by actual human beings.

Gay conversion therapy is quickly becoming a crime in the United States, and it’s a relief to know that the monstrous people who committed atrocities like this can’t get away with it anymore.

4 Fake: The Alien Abduction

Look, we’re not saying that alien abduction isn’t possible, or that the woman in the Haunted episode titled “Alien Infection” is making her story up or that she hasn’t been abducted and studied by aliens. But what we are saying is that her story about how she was abducted really doesn’t add up.

Her vivid descriptions of her abduction are compelling, but she describes things like alien ships coming to her house, dissolving the walls of her home to get at her, and being taken and examined by them. First of all, there’s no way something like that could happen without being seen, and secondly, instead of dissolving and recreating walls why not just wait until she’s actually outside to take her?

3 Fake: The Curse Of The Caul

A lot of people watching Haunted may not have even heard of children being born in the caul, but there actually is a lot of bizarre mythological lore about the babies who are born with this particular quirk.

And the man who tells his haunting story in the episode “Born Cursed” tells one of the scariest and most believable stories in the entire series, but it seems a little absurd to attribute his experiences entirely to the fact that he was born in the caul. Plenty of children are born in the exact same way and turn out fine, so it’s safe to assume that he could have been haunted for a litany of other reasons.

2 Chilling: Childhood Companions

There are lots of theories behind hauntings, spirits, and anything involved in the supernatural. And one of the more common beliefs about supernatural phenomena is that children seem to be especially keen in sensing supernatural entities. In the Haunted episode “Spirits From Below” a family of now-adult siblings discusses their experiences in their childhood homes and the “imaginary friends” that they all seemed to have as children.

These evil entities oftentimes took on the appearance of children in order to befriend the kids, but they seemed to draw the actual human children living in the house towards some very dark thoughts and behaviors.

1 Chilling: Master Of Disguise

When people tell stories of hauntings there seem to be a lot of recurring themes, and one of the major elements of these dark entities that try to influence humans seems to be that they like to take on the appearance of something that is familiar or trustworthy.

But it’s hard to imagine a demonic spirit taking on a more frightening visage than that of “The Mimic.” In the season 2 premiere of Haunted, a group of friends discusses an evil being that actually took on the appearance of the members of the household, and it’s hard to imagine something scarier than seeing someone you know and then realizing it’s some sort of evil ghost.
