Warning: SPOILERS lie ahead for Hawkeye Episode 5, “Ronin”

A Hawkeye episode 5 ending image hits social media from the show’s surprise character making their Marvel Cinematic Universe return. Created by Jonathan Igla and based on Matt Fraction and David Aja’s 2012 comic book run, the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe series picks up sometime after the events of Avengers: Endgame as Clint Barton finds his family holiday ruined when Hawkeye superfan Kate Barton incidentally draws the attention of his Ronin enemies. Clint must find a way to put a stop to the enemies with the help of Clint, though finds the situation progressively more complicated at every turn.

Jeremy Renner returns to lead the cast of Hawkeye as Clint alongside Hailee Steinfeld in her MCU debut as Kate Bishop and Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez/Echo, Tony Dalton, Fra Fee, Brian d’Arcy James, Aleks Paunovic, Piotr Adamczyk, Linda Cardellini and Vera Farmiga. The series also saw the exciting return of Black Widow star Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova to face off against the titular hero after being hired by Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine in the film’s post-credits scene. Yelena wasn’t the only star to make their MCU return in Hawkeye.

On the heels of the latest chapter of the show airing on Disney+, Vincent D’Onofrio took to Twitter to share a Hawkeye episode 5 ending image celebrating his return to the MCU. The Kingpin star paired the image of his character’s silhouette in the end credits with a caption of one of his iconic monologues of “When I was a boy…” Check out D’Onofrio’s post below:

D’Onofrio’s return as Kingpin has been one of the most theorized elements of Hawkeye since the series first began development and Maya Lopez/Echo was announced to make their MCU debut. Those familiar with the comics will know of the close relationship the two had as Kingpin killed her father and adopted her as his own daughter, in turn working for him and serving as a key antagonist to Daredevil for some time. Hawkeye had been setting his return up since episode 3, in which her father was killed by Ronin and she was taken in by an uncle whose sole physical appearance was a hand gripping her cheek.

True to directors Bert and Bertie’s word, the arrival of D’Onofrio’s Kingpin in Hawkeye lit up social media as audiences celebrated the fan-favorite villain from the Marvel Netflix universe to the MCU. With Daredevil now canonized to some degree in what many consider to be the larger MCU, attention is now being directed towards this week’s Spider-Man: No Way Home to whether rumors of Charlie Cox’s return as Daredevil turn out to be true. Only time will tell when the webslinging threequel hits theaters on Friday followed by the Hawkeye finale on December 22.
