Hollow Knight: How to Complete the Delicate Flower Quest

The delicate flower side quest is one of the more infamous quests found in Hollow Knight. So here are some tips to make that quest much easier.

Allowing players to explore a fallen bug kingdom, Hollow Knight is a metroidvania game where players can fight difficult bosses and collect several charms. One of the more infamous unmarked quests in the game involves transporting a pale flower from one side of the map to the other. The catch? The Knight can’t use the stag ways and can’t take any damage. Otherwise, the delicate flower will be destroyed and the Knight will be forced to go back and start from the beginning.

Obtained from the Grey Mourner in the Resting Grounds, this quest is arguably one of the more frustrating side quests available in Hollow Knight. Several players have failed this quests several times over, being forced to restart the quest over and over again just for a chance to gain that special achievement. Thankfully, there are a few tips and tricks that will make the process a lot easier.

Charm Loadout in Hollow Knight

As with bosses and platforming challenges, charms are the first thing any player needs to deal with when confronting a challenge. In this case, players need to prioritize charms that enhance speed, movement, and preventing the player from taking damage. Since the quest fails the moment the Knight takes a hit, this means the player will want to either take out enemies as soon as possible or be able to defend themselves long enough so they can take out their enemies eventually.

Some recommended charms include:

• Grubberfly’s Elegy: It allows the Knight to deal a special slash attack if they are at full health. This slash attack is far-reaching, allowing the Knight to take out enemies before they even come close to harming them.
• Dreamshield: Comprising of a defensive shield that orbits the player, this charm can effectively give the player several additional chances to complete the quest if they misjudge an enemy attack. The shield will absorb the impact of incoming projectiles and can even damage enemies who enter its range. This makes it especially useful for defending the player against swarms of vengeflys and primal aspids.
• Dashmaster/Sprintmaster: This is more for the sake of convenience, but either charm will enable the player to increase their movement speed, thereby allowing them to both enter and exit combat very quickly. They are cheap in terms of notch space too, so there are few consequences to equipping one or both of them.
• Mark of Pride/Longnail: Both charms lengthen the character’s nail, allowing the player to strike enemies from a longer distance. They can even stack their effects on top of each other, giving the Knight the farthest reach possible.
• Unbreakable or Fragile Strength: The quicker the Knight can kill enemies, the less likely they are to get hit. With this charm increasing the Knight’s base damage, several enemies will die in two hits or less.

Plan a Route in Hollow Knight

In addition to using several charms, players are advised to plan their travel routes in advance. Since using the tram stations will immediately fail the quest, this means players will mostly have to travel on foot. So it is advised to travel through areas where there are weak enemies or places the player finds easy to traverse.

Some recommended paths include:

• Resting Grounds: Blue Lake (Resting Grounds): Forgotten Crossroads: Fog Canyon: Queen’s Gardens
• Resting Grounds: Pleasure House (City of Tears): City of Tears: Fungal Wastes: Fog Canyon: Queen’s Gardens

But regardless of the route, the player still needs to be aware of a few things. The most important thing to remember is that there is no time limit. Attempting to rush past enemies and obstacles only increases the chances of the player making a mistake. So be sure to take things slow if things look dangerous.

Another thing is to be incredibly careful in the Queen’s Gardens. Particularly the part where the player is beginning to approach the grave of the Traitor’s Child. That entire section of the map is littered with thorns, and the grave, in particular, seems designed to damage the Knight right before they reach the end goal. The player’s platforming abilities need to be perfect. If the player feels like they may mess up in the Gardens, then they are recommended to get some platforming practice done in the area beforehand.

Abuse Save Mechanics in Hollow Knight

This is a bit of a cheap tactic but it is still available. Did you know that so long as the player doesn’t sit on a bench most enemies don’t respawn? If that sounds like something the player can exploit to make this quest easier, that is because it can. All it requires is the player to spend some extra time clearing their intended travel path. The end result with be a road mostly devoid of enemies. But even though the player has a mostly clear path, they should still be cautious of environmental hazards and enemies that may still be around.

Delicate Flower Rewards in Hollow Knight

So the player eventually completed the delicate flower quest. The grave now has delicate flowers growing around it and the player has acquired the “Solace” achievement. Now what? Well, it turns out the Godmaster DLC added content pertaining to the delicate flowers. If the player takes a delicate flower from the grave of the Traitor’s Child and navigates across the map without taking damage (again), the Knight can present the flower to several NPCs through Hallownest. This includes Elderbug, the White Lady, and Nailmaster Oro. This triggers a unique dialogue with the NPC in question. But it should be mentioned that players can also unlock a secret ending for the game if they present a delicate flower to the Godmaster.
