Home Alone The Characters Ranked By Intelligence

The plot of Home Alone sounds like a dream for many kids, as Kevin McCallister is free to eat ice cream sundaes for dinner, watch movies that he’s too young for, and be in charge of the house. After being mistreated by his siblings for too long, Kevin has definitely earned this break, although of course, things become a disaster once he realizes that some evil (and dumb) thieves are breaking into homes in the area.

There are many debates about the most wonderful Christmas movie and Home Alone has a massive fanbase. While there are some obvious characters in this popular movie who are smart, there are many others who don’t match up to Kevin in terms of intelligence and thoughtfulness.

10 Buzz McCallister

Buzz doesn’t seem very intelligent. He’s the biggest bully in the McCallister household and does everything in his power to be mean to his younger brother Kevin.

While all siblings fight and have some conflict, Buzz takes things to a whole other level as he’s determined to make life awful for poor Kevin. Buzz is a classic dumb movie character, as he cares more about junk food and girls than being a kind member of his family.

9 Fuller McCallister

Home Alone The Characters Ranked By Intelligence

Fuller is super young, so he doesn’t know as much as the other characters about life, but he seems to act a lot younger than his real age, which suggests that he isn’t very smart.

But Fuller does still wet the bed and seems okay with it, as he drinks a lot of soda and grins at Kevin, knowing that they’ll be sharing a bed. While bed-wetting itself doesn’t speak to someone’s intelligence, it’s not wise or mature to actively try to perpetuate the issue.

8 Marv

Marv and his partner Harry get hurt a lot, and the former seems slightly less intelligent than the latter since he seems to fall over a lot more often. Marv is outsmarted by Kevin at every turn in the movie, with hilarious results.

Neither criminal has a brilliant mind, though, and Marv is stupid enough to go along with Harry’s plan to rob wealthy people. He doesn’t even think that he could be discovered or that they would eventually get arrested and punished.

7 Harry

While Marv and Harry spend a good deal of Home Alone in pain, in real life they would have worse injuries.

Joe Pesci’s character is always in a horrible mood and he’s a truly evil guy. When he and Marv get arrested, Marv talks about everything they did and Harry doesn’t want him to say anything, so he’s a little bit smarter than his partner, but not by much. It’s Harry’s idea to rob the houses in Kevin’s neighborhood but he definitely didn’t account for a whip-smart child who would foil his plans.

6 Uncle Frank

Kevin’s Uncle Frank is quite possibly the meanest person in the movie (perhaps with the exclusion of Buzz).

Frank has it out for Kevin and doesn’t think that he’s a sweet, innocent kid who deserves a happy holiday. Instead, he thinks Kevin ruins everything for the family every year. Frank’s big moment is when he yells at Kevin, ” Look what you did, you little jerk!” about the pizza and soda disaster that takes place the night before the family leaves for their vacation.

5 Gus Polinski

John Candy played many hilarious movie roles and his Home Alone character gives Kate a ride. In terms of the film’s intelligent characters, Gus is middle-of-the-road.

Gus is passionate about his music and he’s also smart enough to give Kate some advice about parenting. He says that the band members aren’t great dads because they’re always traveling and don’t see their children enough, so she shouldn’t think that she’s an awful mother.

4 Peter McCallister

Kevin’s father Peter is more intelligent than his relatives, the Wet Bandits, and some of his children. He’s a businessman and he provides for his family. They live in a beautiful mansion, so it seems like he brings home some good money.

While Peter seems a little out of it at times, he does have enough intelligence to feel terrible about forgetting Kevin. He also is practical about how much feeding his huge family costs: when Kate is shocked that the delivery order comes in at $122, Peter does the math and says “Ten pizzas times twelve bucks!”

3 Kate McCallister

There are some parts of Home Alone that confuse fans and that includes the behavior of Kevin’s mom and dad.

Catherine O’Hara is famous for portraying Kevin’s mother Kate, and it’s true that she literally forgets her kid at home when going on a trip, which is not exactly going to make her Mother of the Year. When Kate screams “Kevin!”, however, she proves that she has some mother’s intuition and that she realizes the huge and awful mistake that she made. Kate redeems himself by doing everything that she can to get home to her son and realizing that he needs more love from her. She seems smarter than her other family members because she knows that this situation is serious, whereas everyone else is more prone to goofing off.

2 Old Man Marley

Kevin learns an important lesson when meeting Old Man Marley. At first, Kevin’s absolutely terrified of him, thinking that he’s a bad guy whom the whole neighborhood hates.

Marley ends up being an incredibly wise person. He tells Kevin the real story about his sad family history and how he doesn’t talk to his son anymore. Kevin realizes that he’s a kind person who has had a hard time in life and isn’t scared of him after that. Marley makes Kevin see that his own family does care about him in their way and that’s helpful to him.

1 Kevin McCallister

Kevin comes up with some funny and smart traps and he’s definitely the most intelligent character in Home Alone.

While Kevin is young and has a lot to learn about life, family, and true happiness, he’s as street smart as he could be for his age. For instance, when he goes to the grocery store and the cashier asks about his home address, he says that he has to keep that to himself “because you’re a stranger.” Even though Kevin is excited to be by himself because he wants to eat junk food and have fun, he meets the Wet Bandits and does everything that he can to beat them at their own game. He shows a lot of careful thought and planning for a kid his age.
