A Redditor user has recreated the mounts from Horizon Zero Dawn using a 3D printer, painting them and replicating every wire and plate of the mechanical beasts. Whereas many posts on the PS4 Reddit feature in-game snapshots and fan art, other fans have taken a different direction to commemorating their favorite series. With the sequel to the award-winning Horizon Zero Dawn on the way, momentum and nostalgia for this first game in the series carries on strong within the fan community.

The original game achieved immense success for its detailed post-apocalyptic world of mechanical monsters, the majority of them hostile following The Faro Plague. Including the DLC, main protagonist Aloy can come across 27 different kinds of artificially intelligent robots, machines resembling animals and dinosaurs that were originally intended for war. Rather than firing arrows at their weak points, setting up traps and otherwise hunting these monsters, Aloy can also find a way to override their AI and ride them. Aloy can only turn some of these monsters into full-on mounts, but the mechanical mounts make for a fun way to traverse across the post-apocalyptic United States. Critics lauded Horizon Zero Dawn’s survival gameplay, the behavior of the machines contributing strongly to that reputation. These machines will even “evolve” to gain greater defense after Aloy has killed a certain number of a species.

Reddit user MarkelangeloStudios (via Twinfinite) posted the pictures of the 3D-printed mounts: models of the Strider, Charger and Broadhead. The fan put a lot of detail into the beasts. MarkelangeloStudios has posted 3D models of other monsters as well like the Shellwalker, Snapmaw and Ravager. His creations demonstrate a high level of skill with a 3D printer. The depth of detail given to the plating and armor may not rival the Thunderjaw statue given away by Guerrilla Games to celebrate Horizon’s anniversary, but it’s still an impressive project.

Guerrilla Games originally set the sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, for a late 2021 launch. But fans may have to wait until 2022 to pick up the new adventure. Guerrilla Games has not commented on the original 2021 release date recently, and reports of a 2022 delay for Horizon Forbidden West have surfaced. The silence of the team, in conjunction with the lack of marketing, point to the more likely scenario that Guerrilla Games and Sony have indeed delayed the game, though this has yet to be officially confirmed.

MarkelangeloStudios’ 3D statues make for a cool homage to the iconic machines from Horizon Zero Dawn, and even with a delay to the sequel, fans are still finding occasion to talk about the series. In anticipation of the sequel, which will pick up from the ending of the first game and continue Aloy’s story, fan projects like these can help build greater hype for the eventual release of Horizon Forbidden West.
