How Among Us Should Deal With Crewmates Who Quit

Because it’s become such a massive hit, there are currently tons of people playing Among Us at the same time. Like any game that gets massively popular, problems can arise within the playerbase. One of the increasing problems is players quitting during the middle of, or even right at the beginning of, a round. It negatively affects the gameplay for everyone left behind, which is why developer InnerSloth should penalize Among Us players for quitting early.

In Among Us, players are assigned roles in a sci-fi setting. They are either crewmates, working to complete tasks in outer space – or they’re Impostors, who are trying to kill all the crewmates before being discovered. Playing as an Impostor is the ideal role for many Among Us fans, which is why some people quit if they don’t get the role.

While playing as a crewmate over and over again can get a little boring, quitting early ruins the fun for everyone. It upsets the balance of the game, because Among Us predetermines Impostor and crewmate roles based on algorithms. As more people flock to the game, and more people get used to playing it, players quitting early when they realize they’re not the Impostor has become an increasing problem. The easiest solution is for InnerSloth to implement some kind of penalty system into Among Us, as a way to discourage players from quitting the game so quickly.

Among Us Penalties For Players Who Quit Early

The best solution to players quitting early in Among Us would be to penalize them by hurting their chances of getting Impostor in future rounds. Since most players quit early in an attempt to get the Impostor role instead of crewmate, it would definitely discourage them if quitting dropped their chances. They wouldn’t want to leave early if it means they won’t get to play as the Impostor for a few rounds.

Penalizing players for quitting too soon is not a new concept. MMOs like Final Fantasy XIV already do something similar, where players who drop out of a queue too often are locked out of in-game instances for 30 minutes or more. This may have not been a problem when Among Us was a relatively unknown indie game, but now that it’s exploded in popularity, it’s something InnerSloth will need to address soon. Although it may not be the worst problem the game currently has (a lack of in-game voice chat and proper ways to report Among Us cheaters and hackers also need to be addressed) but simply penalizing players who quit too quickly by removing their chances of getting Impostor for a few rounds could definitely work.

For now, there’s no Impostor penalty for players who quit early. However, as the problem continues to grow, InnerSloth will likely implement some kind of penalty into Among Us to discourage quitting. Players tired of getting crewmate should stick around; chances are, they’ll get Impostor soon enough, and this way they won’t ruin the fun for everyone else.
